IS BIG BANG'S LEGACY TAINTED? (POLL)

  • Nah... John Lennon literally abused his first wife and son and is still considered one of the most influential musicians of all time. Burning Sun will always be linked to them, but it won't really change anything about their legacy or impact.

BB is no John Lennon though. It won't change their impact because it was made in the past, but legacy, yes.

OT4 will do well in Melon, but not OT 5.

  • as it was said before, I don't think their scandals tainted their legacy. their image is, but not their legacy.

it's just so powerful and still influential in the industry that it's just not easy to taint.

their image may not be the most positive, but still, they're a group that korean public will always have eyes on them.

  • Yes and No. Yes because of Seungri’s actions and ones that in a lot of people’s mind can’t be forgiven.

No because of what they’ve achieved as a second gen group and been very successful, they’ve survived scandals before and still have a big fan base. It’s really hard to tell at this point, we’ll have to wait and see on this one.

  • How will this taint their legacy when they were the first one to create and popularize so many things for kpop? It's not like some will claim their (BB) works for themselves..

Having a tainted image? Well, unfortunately yes (Seungri b), but their legacy is intact as ever.

And even with a tainted image i still think they would do great with an OT4 cb and solo works.

  • I realise Many people underestimated BB a lot. Remember even before Burning Sun, BB had many scandals and they still comeback successfully. In 2017, TOP drug scandal happened but their digital single in 2018 got PAK, hit no1 every chart. They are test of time. Their new songs will get hit uls and perform well with promotion. GP cared about music, not about BB personal life, which is very different from other IDOL groups, including BTS.

I don’t think their fan base that huge, they have a strong GP support, even more than BTS and on pair with IU. TOP drug scandal could not stop them to reach highest 24hr uls when Flower road released in 2018.

Well compared to other second gen groups maybe. They have always been a popular group.

I think they are on pair with IU. Like I said, they had a lot of scandal before Burning Sun and their career still going high. I think they just need to release a very good song, their status will comeback

  • To the hormonally driven fetishizing-these-Korean-men-is-my-lifestyle stans, yes.

To people who enjoy music, no. Bigbang will always have music that is above most of what K-Pop can offer. It's not like it's been deleted.

  • Musically no. They still have their achievements and they could possibly still hit the charts due to their name alone

As a group yes. They've been in scandals that required the interventions of the police and courts. Now add seungri scandals and it's hilariously over the top the shit big bang members have been involved in.

Lesser scandals like dating, bullying, rude behaviour etc have gotten other idols in more trouble than big bang has for breaking the law.

  • Their legacy is undeniable at this point. They are too imprinted into the current culture of entertainment. Especially concerning GD who I think has a bigger legacy than BigBang.

They have a few elements in their favour going forward in that BB's legacy is heavily tied to GD's popularity, Seungri was considered the weakest member anyway and a lot of their popularity is wrapped up in nostalgia.

But I think people would be underestimating how big Seungri's scandal was to say that it didn't or isn't going to affect them.

I believe the only way for the group to ultimately survive it is to put as much distance between them and Seungri as possible.

I can't see people having much patience with them if they are giving out subtle clues and nods that they still support him since there's already been backlash surrounding their social media when it comes to stuff like that.
