Is 2021 the comeback year for 2nd generation groups?

  • Maybe it's a coincidence, but I noticed recently how many 2nd gen groups have been having comebacks or joined activities lately.

    Or maybe this was also true for past years but I just failed to notice :/

    But let's summarize which 2nd groups - or multiple members of 2nd gen groups - were having comebacks or (sort of) group activities:

    * 2PM: comeback

    * SHINee: comeback

    * T-ARA: reunion

    * After School: reunion performances

    * Sistar (Hyolyn & Dasom): duo release

    edit: and 9Muses too! With a reunion.

    I got the feeling I'm forgetting some :/

    ... and yes, I did! 9Muses had a reunion in June and I wasn't even aware ^^:oops:

    But this is already a nice list, considering that 2nd gen groups have been either disbanded or faded away the past year, hopefully this is a trend and we'll see more 2nd gen groups have reunion performances or make their comeback :-)

  • I mean Super Junior has been having consistent comebacks for several years now and TVXQ are also still around (I feel like they were probably going to have a Korean comeback this year until Yunho pull that shit), but there's definitely been a uptick with 2PM and Shinee finally done with their enlistments.

    I do think interest is picking up for 2nd gen. I think MMTG/Jaejae has done a great job at generating interest in 2nd gen for younger fans too. I know there's a good portion of kpop fans who watch her show regardless of who the guest is and she's exposed a lot of people to older music. Even stuff like Seungkwan from Seventeen going on Vlive and holding multiple hour listening parties where he just talks about songs he enjoys including 2nd gen have boosted artists.

    It's always easier for boy groups regardless of country to stay alive so it's nice to hear that T-ARA is actually going to have a comeback. I still hope the rumors about SNSD are true. It would be a huge treat.

  • I'm hoping Brown Eyed Girls too

    Her episodes with Shinee were the best. I want her and Key to have a show together..

  • BRAVE GIRLS TRANSCENDING GENERATIONS

    A 2ND GEN GROUP WITH 3RD GEN MEMBERS CREATING THE BIGGEST HIT OF THIS 4TH GEN YEAR OF 2021!!!

    Yeah, the mind boggles, Brave Girls are of all generations!! :happyr:

    You really left 9muses and Brave Girls off this list :pepestare::pepestare:

    I got stuck in trying to classify of what gen Brave Girls are part of :-D

    ... but wait, what? Did 9Muses have a comeback too?! :wow: I thought they disbanded long ago??? :whatk:

    I don't know this MMTG, but the show has popped up more and more lately, I should give it a try.

    And yeah, I heard SNSD wanted to do a reunion kinda thing, but Seohyun's busy schedule were delaying things at the moment. I hope they'll be able to make it work :-)

    Oh damn! Apparently I completely missed that one, thanks for letting me know.

    It's such a fun show and honestly the best idol-centric variety show right now. All the episodes are on YouTube. They've gotten better about subbing them as the show gets more popular, but some episodes are still unsubbed. Jaejae is an amazing host. She's a kpop nerd in real life and she's always well prepared and makes everyone comfortable.

    If you're curious, here's this week's episode with Red Velvet.
