It's already July 7th South Korea, which makes exactly 5 years since we got our beloved sub-unit NCT 127. For the ones who might not know, 127 represents the longitude coordinate of Seoul, where the sub-unit is based.

Five years ago today, the MV for 'Firetruck' was released and their journey started. On the same day, they had their debut stage on M! Countdown performing the song.

Happy NCT 127 Day! It's hard to believe it's been 5 years. I admit I was not a fan of them at first - I thought they were clearly talented and fantastic dancers but the music just wasn't for me to start with. Then I got hooked through the 1-2 combo of Boss (not 127, I know, but many of the same members) and Touch and then I was in for good. But this isn't about me - it's about how NCT 127's continually evolving style and growth keeps bringing in new NCTzens or even casual fans.

The guys have worked so hard over these years through the criticism of their music and them, through injuries and medical leaves of key members, to become a million seller, impactful group that continues to set trends and explore new areas. I love the range of their discography - from classic r&b ballads to Make Your Day to experimental soundscapes.

This pandemic has really highlighted for me the way this group is deeply engaged in its fandom, whether it's creating fandom-driven content from fandom memes or poking fun at fandom jokes, always with a positive message for their Czennies. They're so funny and silly and talented - I can't wait for the next years!

Ah this just speaks to how far they came - the Neos talked about less than 10 fans would show up (they counted them) at first for their early performances.
