Probably more of a side project thing, but it's getting a legit release apparently on actual music platforms (well on QQ Music at the very least). I originally thought this was gonna be something for Kun's SoundCloud.

Me too, but seeing it being promoted on WayV's IG and twitter accounts made me think it could be an official thing.
They also refer to them as WayV - KUN&XIAOJUN, the same way they did with Red Velvet - IRENE&SEULGI.
The SM "insider" account seems to consider them an official subunit. This could very well be a testing of the waters for activities for the other members.

I think they are legit.
I like how they're exploring more line-ups/combos within each sub units instead of just going straight to solo debuts.

Hmm. It's getting released on all the platforms and it even has its own specific logo/name treatment on the WayV page on Twitter and IG. When Kun and Chenle had the recent side project song, it was not handled in this way (I recognize that they are in different sub units, but they definitely didn't go all out in rebranding the social channels like this), so I feel like it's sub unit-y.

Not sure yet. He's given lots of shots of himself mixing and doing work, but not sure if it's for this and impending new WayV release, or even a SoundCloud release now that his account is "pro" and thus monetized.

Since the English release is "for the international fans," this would seem to imply it will be released on international platforms beyond QQ to me. One of the original release posts also said "all major music platforms".

They'll be promoting on music shows - I wonder if they'll split languages like they did with the Kick Back comeback, knowing the lead single is in both Mandarin AND English, and they performed English language Bad Alive on music shows to support the repackage last year.
Also, Kun, Xiaojun and Sungchan reunited again.
