I remember that! Even as late in 2nd gen era as 2011-2012, there were huge flocks of antis, other-group stans and bandwagoners that actually kept claiming that SM groups were nothing but talentless visuals. And many of them actually, really believed it!

Even with their proven talents for everyone to see and the many outstanding performances of DBSK, SNSD, Super Junior and other SM groups around they kept saying that, it was mind blowing.

Only when K-pop vocal analyses become more and more widespread and wellknown, showing how wilfully ignorant and utter fools all those haters and their bandwagoners were, did this fake news hater narrative start to slowly die out.

Right, I remembered around 2010, I have this cousin who is also a fan of kpop. She is a fan of this group (whose name I won't mention because I also respect that group) and firmly believes that SNSD is a group of just pretty faces singing gee and nothing more and that this group whom she likes is better than SNSD vocally. She even believes that their main vocal is better than Taeyeon and I never understood why she thinks that way. How can she say that when gg have two main vocals and three lead vocals in comparison to the group she's comparing them with. I was like, have you heard Taeyeon? Like truly heard her singing voice outside the usual SNSD songs? How about Jessica, Seohyun, Tiffany and Sunny? It was before kpop vocal analysis have became widespread and kpop fans have this general consensus about SM idols not being able to sing good. Everyone else around me especially the old kpop forums think like that only to be proven wrong in the later years.
