GDA committee changes criteria for digital music category

I just want all award shows to stop making shadow weeks that aren't nominated for either year.

Oh, and this is gonna be ugly. I wonder what weighting function they're going to use. It can't be a linear function.

This solves one problem while causing another.

It will harm sleeper hits.

They should just do what Gaon does. They rank songs' performance from debut to 30 days after debut for SOTM awards.

So if you release on May 31, you can still compete fairly against a song that released on May 1, in order to earn May SOTM honors.

And the first month is most important anyways, nobody cares what a song does 8 months after release, its peak impact is the important thing.

This is a good change some songs that were released later in the year never had a chance.

This is dumb, like REALLY dumb. You can't judge a performance of an 1 month old song

If they had any brain-cells left, they would just change the eligibility period. If the award is in January, only songs released before August should be eligible. 6 months of a performance is better to gauge success than 1 month and it would be much easier to weight sales from 6 months against 12 months, than 1-2 months against 12 months

And baaam, case closed. Post August releases could be eligible in following year

But of course I'm asking too much for koreans awards

While it does help songs released later in the year, this will cause issues with songs that are growers.

Also last year we had beach again which had good digitals in the beginning but didn't had any longetivity.i don't think there will any fair system.

See, IU has the best digi point for the first 30 days so far (by a large margin). I don't know the exact time period GDA is using for their calculation tho.

They change it because songs released in the second half of the year never win SOTY because their digitals are not as much as a song released in Jan.
