I agree, they have different concepts but anything that is not cute is going to be labeled girl crush. So yeah.

I think it may come from f(x) similarities actually besides the message of some of their songs but that’s a stretch. I remember when everyone thought it was gonna be Pink Punk, that there were rumors that they were going to be like 2ne1 but less brash and more of a softer experimental quality like f(x). Now that didn’t necessarily happen but there are some similarities between f(x) and itzy in a way. The entire visual trinity thing is kinda in both groups.

At the beginning there were a lot of rumors that f(x) would be more of a dance group and the SM box MVs was to highlight their synchronized dancing but that kinda fizzled out.

Also remembered that a lot of f(x) music was disliked at most and then people loved it (not me I always loved it) Maybe a similar thing for ITZY? I can see them maturing into a more f(x) concept.

I don't really see it. I always thought of ITZY as teenager Miss A. Where their stage performance aura is INSANE and their dance skills are AMAZING.

Whereas I saw Blackpink as 2NE1's little sisters. Certified BOP songs that get stuck in your head!

I don’t think BP and Itzy are similar in style or sound. Not similar at all. Both might have the girl crush concept but Itzy is more teen style: fresh, energetic, sassy, loud with powerful performances. Blackpink is more the traditional girl crush.

blackpink is not even super girl crush either they have done girly pop ish concepts

blackpink is not really a traditional girl crush either concept wise they are more fashionable, trendy they also have a pink side. it's hard to put them in a category I think even G idle are more girl crush than bp.

I think traditional girl crush were from 2nd gen ( 4 minute, 2ne1 etc) they were more bad ass and fierce.

The similarity is that both are a success

I think Itzy was JYP's answer to BP's enormous success with D4. But he didnt straight copy BP of course, it would be impossible, like NOBODY could truly offer what BP can. Instead he fashioned Itzy as a teen crush group, using BTS' "love yourself" messaging, appealing to a younger audience (teens and even preteens), and hyping up Itzy's greatest strength - their dance/performance abilities. Their music was different as well.

It's only with MITM that Itzy borrowed a lot more from BP, musically. Itzy was never a rap focused group but MITM is structured like a BP song with rap verses then melodic prechoruses and bridges, all placed around a chorus drop and repetitive chorus.
