tbh he fits a nice niche that i don't think most mainstream kpop fans have itched. Listening to his new album, it reminded me of Crush/Dean who also do slow-jam R&B.
i think people across fandoms just enjoy his music. Majority of the b-sides are really good if your into R&B and he's had a somewhat consistent sound over the 3 albums but with enough variance within the R&B genre. Not to mention his amazing vocals. Its just good music/talent and that will always sell. -
He has a massive Japanese R&B fanbase that EXO has been unable to tap so far, many of my friends who live in Japan hear him played on the radio just as much as Utada, Tayeon, BoA, Koda Kumi, Perfume, Hyde, Crystal Kay, Dreamcatcher and Ayumi Hamasaki

I remember when they invented a excuse to not help Universe sales, saying they were still send The Power of Music's copies for everyone. And then, stopped helping in their following cbs.
A lot of EXO-Ls are not happy with the idea of this unit either. Me included. I respect SuperM and I don't support the amount of nonsense hate it gets, but I'm not interested in the songs or buying their merch like I do with EXO.
So I think this kind of mindset the fandom has hurts the unit.
