I'm horrified at the state of Jihyo's and Joy's apartments

  • These are top idols FFS. They had it all, album sales, touring, brand deals.. And this is what 10+ yrs if steady work gets you? Wtf. This looks like low income housing.

  • Sorry if this sounds harsh but in what world do they look like low income houses?

I only watched Jihyo's episodes but she has a well equipped kitchen, nice furniture in the living room and a big tv, has a big room just for clothes (in fact, she has clothes in two rooms). Two fridges, special machine for food waste. I also remember that they didn't show everything, just what she wanted to show.

Her flat doesn't come across as super luxorious because it's minimal, but she owns a lot of appliances to have a comfortable life.

I don't know what do low income households look like where you live, but in my opinion not only is her flat very big but it also has a lot of expensive stuff that people who earn low wages can only dream about.

  • You seem to don't know much about Korean housing system and pricing

    you go there from:

    banjiha / semi basement apart

goshiwon - joint housing basically tiniest room possible with bathroom and kitchen shared with other people on your floor

1 room apartment - most common, hella lot of people live like that having one room, kind of like half of kitchen/half hallway (shoe place), mini bathroom

2 room apartment - if you are single person and you live in an apartment like that you are considered as person who achieved success. You have main living room, bedroom, bigger bathroom, and many times also proper size kitchen.

3 room apartment - what are you? a golden spoon?

And mind that prices of those also have big ranges depends on which neighbourhood/district of Seoul you're in. Same with rent prices and utility bills also being higher in some places.

Many times you can actually judge how successful Idol was what happens when generations passes. For example it would be concerning to see one or another 3rd gen idol downgrading to single, 1 room apartment after 5 years from now. It would basically mean he/she lost lot's of money, or actually didn't even make as much as we thought.

  • That's super interesting, I only new a bit of this.

But I agree with what you said and Jihyo Has more than 3 rooms, so it proves the point even more.

  • Also Op Doesn't take into account that it's appartment in seoul

Even if they don't look like these luxurious appartment in small city in america or france

The fact that it's in the capital of SK also make the appartment much more expensive

  • Tbh i don't know if idols are just really bad at decorations or the people they hire are bad

But i never find an idol house well decorated

I assume it's because different cultures will have different stylizing. From what I've seen, it seems they go for minimalist look and it's less extravagant than what you see at western celeb homes. Also, I assume they have a dense population which explains why homes look smaller.

Honestly small homes isn't a problem i actually prefer small size things than huge houses

But i don't know the scandinavian decorations is very minimalist but pretty

But most of idols houses looks very minimalist not well decorated and very very impersonal

Which i find crazy cuz if i was outside of my house 99% of my time

I would want a house that is very personal and that feels like i'm in a safe place once i'm in it

  • It's not "low income housing".

But if we say they should have enough money to live more high end, keep in mind if they are living solo they have not bought the house/home where they plan to build their familes and future live in. When they do that they probally bring the big money. And not everyone are that intressted big and nice homes, it's enough it's comfortable and good enough.

  • Hey where is the gif in your sig from?

  • This makes me think that idols are truly underpaid. Imagine how much their companies are making off of them. TWICE, for example, is the best-selling group in history and sold over 1.5 million tickets on their last tour. I expected Jihyo to be much richer than that. Although it doesn't seem like low-income housing, I'm sure a Western celebrity of their level of popularity would live in a much more luxurious apartment than these, even in expensive cities like NY and LA.

Make no mistake, they are wealthy. The fact is they're living in an overpopulated city where luxurious homes are in very short supply, and many of them also don't intend to live there permanently. So why break the bank?

Jihyo's apartment looks like it might be bigger than Tzuyu's. That didn't stop Tzuyu from buying her mother a luxury condo in Taiwan. She has the money, it just makes no sense for her to live like that.

I think Kpop fans still tend to exaggerate the "level" of celebrity Kpop idols enjoy. I've heard a number of Koreans all say the same thing, that they're usually considered relatively minor celebrities domestically, in which case it would make sense for the more succesful ones to be wealthy but not super wealthy, living in a mansion types. And guess what? You will find minor celebrities living in very similar homes in other crowded cities like NYC, where a million dollars will buy you a shoe box.
