I think this is the reason why there's a declining interest in kpop. Many people gravitated towards kpop because the American pop scene was weak. We didn't really have many pop stars in the 2010s. Kpop was offering something that wasn't really there during that period which explains the boom that happened during that period. Now there's many popstars people can gravitate towards to which is cutting into kpop. I've noticed some stan accounts are now posting about the current popstars and before we rarely saw that.
On the male side it's mainly legacy acts but there are some new acts breaking through. It's just on the female side of things it's much harder to breakthrough due to competition. So, I am unsure if Fifty Fifty for example would've been able to hold their place because Cupid for example wasn't that big of hit in Korea compared to what it was globally.
