NewJeans and original Fiftyfifty are probably the biggest "what if" ever in kpop

    Crazy how both groups still hold the record for the highest entries on the US Billboard Hot 100 among kpop groups after Bts and Bp. And short later, both were trying to get out of their contracts. Kind of ironic...


    50/50 could’ve easily been at least on the same level as Stayc or Itzy by now if they’d been able to ride the wave of Cupid. I heard they got a bunch of Cf and brand deals, plus that Barbie song. Such a missed chance to really blow up.


    Then there’s Nj. Honestly, they’re probably the biggest “what if” we’ve ever seen in kpop. What’s really sad is that, unlike former 50/50 members, who alr back in the industry, it might take Nj years to get through this. I'm worried they could end up in a situation like Park Yoochun despite both cases are completely different. He couldn’t win any injunctions to resume his activities, and it already been 4 years. To be honest, if only they could win the injunction... even if the case took longer to settle, at least they could continue their careers just fine.


    In conclusion, we lost two girl groups with huge potential. What a shame.

    If the 3 Jungs in Ablume stayed they would be run around like what the act which now calls itself 5050 is being run. So they would have fizzled.


    In fact it seems they extended their career by breaking out. Their start is not that bad since they are essentially starting again from square one, while the act which now calls 5050 seems to have hit a dead end and the traitor now being sidelined, a common practice by Jeon.


    About New Jeans, it is a different story, but I can cite at least 5 bigger what ifs than this.

    If BlackPink did not waste 2021, and let IU and aespa run around , but engaged BTS then

    If SM could have suppressed the rebellions in SNSD and EXO in 2014, which fatally weaked both acts

    If the Huang An shit did not occur and Tzuyu became the greatest star in Asia, which would have significantly influenced BlackPink's trajectory.

    Newjeans is much less of a "what if" since they had already established themselves as one of the most successful and accomplished GGs EVER. Of course they would've never surpassed BP but we already know what they could do. 5050 is a much bigger "what if", could've fell off the earth entirely or built off the momentum, we'll never know.

    I agree and it's a shame that we probably lost out on ever seeing their full potential, though I still think they can easily come back strong. And quite frankly I think they are a better group to be representing k-pop gg's on the international side than aespa is, I miss their tiktoks :(

    Nj is still the biggest 'what if' for me, because we never got to see their full potential. The girls not even two years into their careers when everything happened. Who knows if their success had continued, they might have become another powerhouse like Bts and Bp. It's not like those two groups were expected to be as huge as they are now, just two years into their own careers. Of course, people will still remember them for the huge legacy they've already built, despite still being a rookie group. But that also raises a big question how far could they have gone without all the drama? Their potential is too great to be wasted like this.

    It always seemed to me that one of the biggest reasons for BP and BTS becoming so huge was that the American pop scene was relatively weak at the time. The male side is still weak, but the female side has boomed in recent years, making it much more difficult foreign female acts to breakthrough.
