[instiz] All the groups who debuted in 2019 have disbanded except for Itzy

  • it's sad that they got nothing to bargain for their upcoming renewal. 7 years in the industry yet only 1 member have solo.

    crazy work by the company

Around the 7 year mark is when most groups first start to have solos, this is the norm.

the issue isn't merely solos per se but rather any individual activity

people have to remember kpop idols don't just sing and dance and rap - they do cfs and act and model and MC and do variety shows and musicals etc etc - that's all part of the idol forte

Also the fact that not every idol within the group may want to debut solo

the issue with JYPE though is that they literally prevented groups like twice and to a lesser extent subsequent GG like Itzy from having individual activities for like the first contract period

Twice had more individual activities during the first 6 months of their seventh (renewal!!!) year than the entire prior 6 years combined

Itzy only got their individual IGs last year (five years post debut)

sure Itzy have quite a lot of individual activities now (and basically from last year) but prior to that hmmm...not so much

but the reason why I say that well it applies more for twice than Itzy since twice started individual activities much later than itzy did but the less individual activities the members of a group does the less opportunities the members have when it comes to contract renegotiations since one doesn't have as much opportunities to show off oneself (outside of the group) but that advantages JYPE since the less one's opportunities outside of the group the more likely it is for the members of said group to renew

  • Yes, I realize that. I was merely commenting on debuts, didn't think of individual activities in general.

JYP seems to have a thing with not letting idols grow individual careers much (after Suzy?), it's not just the case with GGs so I know it well. SKZ didn't have personal IGs until 5 years after debut either. Their cfs, shows, ambassadorships, etc. exploded the last years, and one part of that is because now JYP let them build their individual brands and accept opportunities.

I'm glad Itzy seem to be getting decent solo opportunities now at least, but ofc a lot might have passed them by these years, and JYP held them back in those ways. JYP seem to like having this control to make sure their idols resign like you said, then they can also promise more solo activities if they resign.

  • Debuted in 2019

Here are a bunch of groups that debuted 2020-2022.

A lot of them have disbanded, some are in life support.

    absolutely my friend 100%

someone mentioned to me SKZ as well (I think it was minazuki) and their individual activities such as their individual IG accounts

  • Basically it's 2025 now and we only have THREE active GGs from before 2020 - Idle, Itzy and Twice. All the other 3rd gen are gone - BP is defacto disbanded as is RV, OMG, MMM.

    Sometimes I feel, you're always drunk. 🤣

Like Blackpink MAYBE(?) release something in May, we can't know for sure with YG. Red Velvet releases a new album every year, and they're the only 3rd gen girl group who can still chart every year in SK. Oh My Girl released an album every year till 2025! GFriend also released a Single not long ago, even Apink and they're 2nd gen.

As for MAMAMOO, they're on the same route as Blackpink. They're focusing on the solo career. The only girl group that released more songs is TWICE, probably. I think after 9 years of non-stop work, they can have a 2 or 3 year break for their solo career. And it's not like they didn't do anything, they had a World Tour in 2023.
