Why are boy groups generally able to sing live better than girl groups, despite having harder choreos?

  • Personally, I think this can be attributed to the fact that boy groups are generally less vocally oriented than girl groups, yk? In boy groups, there is usually 1-2 members that carry the group vocally and apart from that, there's just mid raps and talk-singing all throughout.

But tell me what you think.

Is it because of the difference in anatomies?? Or are boy groups just built different??

  • the first reason i can think of is that Girlgroup are targetted to the general public more than being fandom driven like BG

so they often get more commercial and ads than boygroup member

that's why i would say Girlgroup visual is much more important than BG visual.

Company ends up debuting some members just for their potential to bring money for their visual and you end up with very weak and bad vocalist like sakura, momo, etc....

  • The girls are very very thin. Like it's jarring to see female idols standing next to regular skinny women. I honestly don't think they have the muscle mass or endurance to perform physically while adding vocals.

The male idols are also skinny and weigh very little but since having abs is part of their beauty standard they are allowed to push themselves a bit in the gym.

  • I would say it's because they just have stronger voices and physics overall that are needed to be heard in a live sitaution. You need a strong voice if you want to be heard in a open space. Sitting in a study and singing is a bit different.

  • I don't know that there is a notable difference nowadays, tbh, and there's a reason for that. But from maybe late 3rd and early 4th gen this does seem to be true. Modern exceptions aside, we can see from the earlier gens that it is entirely possible for both boy and girl groups to sing live while doing choreography, so I haven't really given this topic that much thought, but I can theorize.

Female idols are generally expected to be as thin as possible, without much visible muscle, whereas male idols are are more celebrated for being muscular, meaning they can actually eat. Sometimes, I feel like some girlgroup members are going to faint everytime they perform live, as they are pushing way past their energy capacity, since all they ate all day was an apple and three ice cubes. There's a biological element, but I think more importantly, these companies can and will invest as little as they can get away with. As others have mentioned, visuals are important in boygroups too of course, but historically, it does kind of feel like the only thing many people care about in female idols is their looks. Not to mention that ageism impacts women way more, meaning the window of time that they can milk as much money as possible from female idols is much narrower. Unfortunately, this means they just end up being more disposable, and agencies would rather just debut good looking stan attractors without any regard for their longterm career.

But it's happening to boygroups now too, since it's almost unheard of for an entire group to resign with the agency they debuted under. Risk is higher, and therefore investment is lower which is reflected in the fact that trainee periods are overall getting shorter. While some have argued it was always this way, it's never been more true than now--where attention span is at an all time low--that the industry has just become a disposable idol factory pumping out dancing monkeys turned glorified influencers.

  • It's the weight and beauty standards. Not saying that male idols do not have to go through grueling diets and fitness regimes but the standards for women are generally tougher. Lots of female idols are generally very thin and are expected to look flawless all the time especially while performing. As a result of being thin they also tend to lack stamina.

Speaking from personal experience I recently lost 15 kgs and became quite underweight due to health issues and my energy and stamina has taken a huge hit. I get tired easily and feel like sleeping more. Also became more irritable and lose concentration.

  • IMO boy groups just have more hardcore fans that will defend them so it feels like GGs are criticized more.

BG’s are also starving themselves to look good. All of them are indeed underweight by male standards as well. So while I agree that GG’s have it worse imo the main reason this opinion arises is because of the different type of fans GG’s vs BG’s have.

  • Physical superiority duh

You already have a biological advantage and then you add to this the fact that female idols have more severe diets which makes them unable to build muscle mass and as a result they get tired faster.

  • Boy groups aren’t singing live more than ggs these days. They are about the same ratio. Also BGs have a lot of weird noises, such as shouting and making some noises, also half rapping, talk singing and etc. Ggs have harder singing songs overall.

Also I feel like BGs have became larger these days. We don’t see 5 or 4 member bgs these days. If they have a lot of members then it will become easier to sing the song.

Also, male body has more stamina and lung capacity. So always, men will have advantage over women.
