So why is YG so inefficient at its main business--releasing music?

Do you understand how excruciatingly exhausting it is for a newbie to figure out how K-pop works?

When I first tried to get into K-pop, I was interested and open-minded enough to learn, but I still had a tough time figuring out what in the world SUPERJUNIOR-M, SUPERJUNIOR-K, and TaeTiSeo were.

And what’s the difference between 2PM and 2AM? Are these two different groups or what?

And these album repackages? Is this a new album? Why is it marketed as a new album when it’s the same as the last with the exception of two new songs?

Aside from my interest in 2NE1, I couldn’t stan girl groups for the longest time because all the comebacks, Japanese releases, special editions, solo albums, and subunit projects confused the heck out of me.

And you expect me to learn their whole discography, lore, and history just to feel like a true fan?

It’s like these animes with 5 seasons and 70 episodes for each season. Nah, I’m too far behind to feel like I’m part of the fandom.

Then came BLACKPINK. PHEW. What a relief. I couldn’t finally keep up because these girls only released two songs at a time. It was clear what their concept was and what they were aiming for. They only had four members.

Easy. I could get through this in one day. I’m a certified BLINK.

YGE likely knew and understood this, so they tried to keep things simple and limited to give new fans a chance.

YGE doesn’t need to rely on the exclusivity strategy for BABYMONSTER.

BABYMONSTER’s promotional and release strategy is much more traditional because they’re the prioritizing Korean market this time around.

As for the Western market, the bubble already burst. BLACKPINK already served as the gateway into YGE’s style and music. There’s no need to “play it safe” with a limited discography to match the pace of Western newbies anymore.

They are just incompetent. If since debut yge gave them at least a mini album each year with full promotions then ok, but they had their first mini in 2018 (2 years after debut) and the first "full album" in 2020 (4 years after debut) and in those 7 years they had 2 minis with 4 song each and 2 full albums with 8 songs each. Does it make sense?

The moment they started publicly complaining about the lack of songs it's the moment you know the company didn't do their work properly.

Maybe incompetence that turned into… effective laziness because it helped new fans become attached to the group.

I know. I dislike the lack of music, too. But apparently, the silver lining was that a lot of people found it easy to end up calling themselves BLINKS and VIPs, including myself.

As a huge fan now, I of course want more music, but I really don’t know if I’d be into them today if they had a large discography to keep up with like these SM and JYP groups do.
