Koreans’ Favorite Singers/Groups of 2024 according to Gallup Korea [Age Group: 30 and Below] 1. NewJeans 2. IU 3. Aespa 4. BTS 5. IVE

  • 2014 was SNSD's worst year, with endless noise coming from Jessica Jung, but IU beat SNSD in the end because of Autumn Morning

Autumn Morning was in 2017 beating BTS' DNA.

Think you are mixing up with "Meaning of You".

Bibi had her moment, but Aespa is the true winner for the year and "Love Wins All" is showing a strong staying power.

With Billboard No.1, this Gallup Survey & a very successful world tour, 2024 has not dented the IU legend at all, good year overall.

Actually it was Sogyeokdong with Seo Taiji which was decisive

  • Obviously IU stands out making it quite high even among the older audience, she's the singer of the century in korea, but she's an exception, not the rule.

And Lim Young Woong making it in the Top #10 of under 40 while maintaining Top #1 of over 40, for the past 5 years, is no less impressive.

The other person of note is Jang Yoon Jung, she has not left the Top 10 of Gallup for 18 years at a stretch now. Yes since 2020, she figures only in the Over 40 list, but 18 years on top is astounding anywhere in the world.

IU has been in the Top 10 for 13 years now, since 2011. Only 2016 did she not make Top 10.

She alone can beat Jang Yoon Jung.

Very few Kpop acts have the longevity to hold the public for long years.

Bigbang, BTS, Girl's Generation have 9/10 years on the Top 10. Twice/BP have 5 years.

Only BTS and BP are still in play, but I doubt if they can catch up to IU.

  • If Bibi did not defeat IU the latter would have taken #1

Defeated how? It spent less time at #1, it has less uls, streams and digital score and its not even in top 100 today, while lwa is still in top 25. The song is good but its bascially a viral hit with with seemingly not much longevity.

But there are other bigger songs this year that beats out both so

The thing with IU is the consistency, its not that she have the top song of the year every year.

And in Korea in specific, older audience mainly listen to trot. It's a whole demography that only focus on that, that's why we had the same song topping the Gallup poll for the 40s+ for 3 consecutive years now, let's not even talk about the artists... they listen all the time the same artists and music.

The below 30s rank is the most accurate way to measure real popularity, the other one is barely going to change in the following decade. Obviously IU stands out making it quite high even among the older audience, she's the singer of the century in korea, but she's an exception, not the rule.

Yea, the whole reason they started splitting the group into 10-39/40+ in 2020 is because the trot artists were starting to take over the top 10 every year, because while the younger generations have hundreds of artists and songs to choose from, the older generation have 5-6 popular trot artists and a handful of songs which made their vote weight that much higher and the rankings didnt make much sense because of it.

One can also see the trend with IU moving up higher in the older brackets as the years go by, in 2030 its likely she will start topping the 40/50 age bracket while going down in the teens bracket. What people listen to in their youth is what they will stick with and the discovery of new music basically stops dead in the 30's for the wast majority of people.

  • But IU cannot reclaim #1 which is the big issue

If Bibi did not defeat IU Love wins all would have retained #1 position until late March when Gidle's Fate began to become popular, and she would have retained her dominance over all of KPop with the 4th GEn kneeling.

She might supplant Lim Youngwoong in the older bracket as the latter is not really producing any more relevant songs and the older population begin to be swept away, but among the more relevant bracket she will gradually lose power as the newer generations who do not respect her take over.

    Correct.

But what is surprising with IU, is that many (including herself) expected this age range move to have already happened. Instead she still remains highly popular with the 10-20s..

So much so that "Winter Sleep" fans are cribbing that "Elementary School Uaenas" pushing up "Drama", spoiled its fame/chances of PAK etc., funny.

So yet again, she might be an exception to this typical dynamic to music listening and aging - at least to more extent than other acts.

Besides if Korean TFR continues this way, the 'young' may not be the largest market in SK

We can look forward to many years of WhyKnock 's long winded conspiracy doom saying with historical comparisons.

Maybe, but even so I don't think LWA could have beaten "Supernova" this year.

But have your victory, at least it is more substantial than Laboum, that was as shallow as it gets.
