aespa isn't the top girl group on ANY definitive metric on ANY platform. Not MelOn. Not Spotify. Not Circle. Not on Apple Music. Not in Japan.
A new Gallup survey just dropped again today and SURPRISE SURPRISE NewJeans was again the highest ranked girl group behind only SNSD and BLACKPINK.
Did they have a year as dominant as 2023? No, but that was also the most dominant year by any girl group in the history of K-Pop. Even if they didn't reach those heights this year, due to sabotage from their own company (why do we ignore this important context?), they are STILL the top group and it's not even close if you look at the numbers...which I've posted dozens of times at this point. People just choose to ignore them so they can push delusional narratives about their favorite groups or to shade NewJeans to get at me.

To OP: even if by some miracle we can see NJ1 soon, the main issue is rollout and promotion. If MHJ manages to wrangle her job back, that's a problem because as we've all seen, her promotion sense is terrible. Newjeans songs' success has been relying off the hype of previous songs.
If we have that Hybe sheep still at the helm, that's also a problem as 1. She's useless 2. The asshole from Belift is in charge of our production and that's obviously an issue. 3. Let's be real, even if by some miracle we can get all 4 sides to sit down and work together, the promotion is probably going to be minimal as Hybe seems more focused on bleeding Ador's money than making it successful

People see them as entitled rich kids. plain and simple.. Thats what my comments say. They are young with no life experience to show them when to dive in and when to not. They are not the top artist on circle in any catagory. are they up in the top three yes. You cant say that his drama hasnt hurt them. Their comeback from this year is not streaming anywhere near what their first two releases did. The streams that they top with this year are old songs, which is good for them. I could care less where Aespa and Le SSerafim are on the charts. I congratulate all who make it to number one even New Jeans if you look at my posts.

I'm one of the people that have complained about How sweet's promotions the most, but we don't know how much the problems with Hybe could have changed her plans, they were in the middle of an audit and didn't even have access to their computers for a while, all this happened in May.
Apart from that the promotion of NJ has been superb, the debut album was massive thanks to the surprising way to promote it (thanks to Hyein too but obvious MHJ was really relevant for this).
Ditto and OMG became one of the most succesful prereleases + titles ever, when it was not that common for groups to be dropping prereleases, top groups started doing it more frequently again after NJ did. T
he whole Get up idea was perfect and the reason why it was so massive, they let time to shine to all the tracks and thanks to that there were several hits in the album, and making a short mini album promoted in this way made the whole album to have insane numbers, Get up being above 100M streams in Spotify is 99% thanks to how the project was handled.
I don't need to explain how good the promotion of the japanese debut was because the fact that I've to mention it unlike all the other japanese debuts is enough proof.
I'd agree if you said the way to promote is risky, since she does some things that no one else do and the result is unknown, but terrible? After seeing how everything was working until the Hybe mess? No way.

I don't know about internationally, but Newjeans will be fine in S. Korea. The small amount of backlash against NJs are from the older male Koreans, who doesn't consume Kpop. It is more politically motivated than anything else.

Yes, I know they're successful but outside of filming multiple music videos, Ador doesn't really do much to build hype or promote the comeback ahead of time. Get Up is the only era where I think they put effort in.

I never said anything about Nj not being a top group anymore or they fall behind any gg, nor did I downgrade their achievements this year. Simply wishing them to reach new heights next year is not an insult. It’s also unfair to use a definitive metric for a single year. Nj is obviously doing great with longevity, and their old songs are still charting but we all know that people will pay the most attention to this year’s releases to crown who’s doing the best this year. Nj likely won't win any Daesang but Aespa will, and that’s the only thing people will see unless they’re chart-obsessed. Tho most people will understand that Nj is going through a rough year which make things harder for them. They didn't even fully promoting their songs this year and their full album getting delayed.

They are the actual faces of South Korea, serving as the official ambassadors of Korean tourism and being the only girl group invited by the President to perform for their Olympic athletes and officials. They continue to absolutely dominate every Gallup poll.
Trust me, I could go on. In no timeline is NewJeans not still by far the top girl group. They just happen to be in a public fued with their own company, who is LITERALLY their biggest anti right now.
I mean, the fact that NewJeans is still this powerful and relevant, with HYBE actively trying to sabotage them, is proof of how they are virtually untouchable and their top status in Korea.

Just this is enough as conclusion,
I just want the girls to reach new heights and prove the antis wrong. I want their new songs to be everywhere again so that people can’t escape them. It’s pretty easy to get that without overthinking what I didn’t even say.

I might sound a bit romantic here, but that's because the promotion of NJ is not based on amount of content, it's based on quality. MHJ's touch is obvious because everything they do is related to arts.
The promotion of the debut album was the music itself being released as MVs before the release in music platforms. The Get up teaser was not a teaser, it was the New Jeans song. They don't boost their sales and please their fandom giving 100000 photocards, they do it customizing bags to encourage the fans (and non fans) to buy it. They don't spend the budget of the MVs on expensive clothes or backgrounds, they spend it on hiring good directors, telling stories and doing things like what they did with Hype boy releasing different points of views for the MV, or with Ditto and the whole Bang Hee Soo project which is one of the best ways you can make your fandom proud of stanning your group. They didn't debut in Japan dropping a filler song and focus on getting good sales like almost all the other groups, they still cared about the music they were releasing and decided to promote the songs in Korea too, making one of them a hit.
You can't ask them to do a normal promotion when everything they do is different from the rest, it has its pros and cons (more pros, I wouldn't change anything) but I really don't think we can complain about it, we're in this boat thanks to all these things.

Twitter’s timeline is so random now, I can’t avoid hate tweets about the groups I like anymore. And Tiktok’s just as bad. It is very romantic. Regardless, the problem of relying on hype and music quality is it only works when things are going well and when it's followed up quickly. This year should the limitations in that method
There's no denying that NewJeans has taken damage in this and been exposed to endless bad press. This cost them a lot of casual fans and put a negative screen on them that Ador didn't do much to overcome with the comebacks this year. If they keep going as they have, low effort promotion relying on NewJeans name only, the results are going to keep decreasing and decreasing until they fade out, there's no other way around it.
Art and promotion are not conflicting actions that take away from each other. An artist needs good promotion and there are plenty of groups out there putting out high quality work and making an effort to draw new people in to appreciate it (Aespa)
