I hate Drinking Culture of Korea!

  • Look at every single K-Drama, you always see people drinking Soju, Beer, Wine, Makgeolli and other types of alcohol all the time, every day and every ten minutes in an episode, regardless of the genre of kdrama!

Usually drinking is tooo much, that I couldn’t watch any further some series because of it!

Also, K-pop idols - a lot of drinking in variety shows: the one with Youngji, Suga, idols’ own variety shows with drinking and etc.

Like they are advertising alcoholic lifestyle for 24/7.

And because of that accidents like with Suga and Kim Sae-Ron will happen a lot in life!

A lot of kpop and kdrama fans are kids and teenagers and they see their idols drinking until they knock out, and of course they will repeat what they will do!

Also, because of that SK is literally killing their citizens in long term!

And these shows and dramas with drinking is just increasing!!!

I hope SK puts some laws regarding an advertisement of Alcohol very soon!!!

  • gladly some of shows in recent years also started to advertise 0% beer

and best drinking show for sure is Lee Youngji's one hehe

  • I see nothing wrong with it

I haven’t seen any other country to advertise alcohol as much as Korea does! Not even US and Russia!!!!

Like Korea is basically advertising alcohol even in school related kdramas, tons of celebrities are ambassadors of Alcohol companies, and when majority of the fans are underage people, it is not really good!

  • alcohol is okay in moderation even as someone who never drinks

Alcohol is never okay, proved million times by medicine and Religion

Also I don’t have an issue with people drinking it, but especially in Kdramas it is just too much and out of context!!!

I don’t even remember in which Kdrama I’ve not seen drinking people on every single episode! ;judgingpepe:

  • Yeah drinking is a huge part of SK culture but honestly most cultures have a very unhealthy culture around drinking. I see lots of alcohol brands advertised on tv in America and many celebrities here even have their own brands of alcohol.

Sadly there is just too much money to stop advertising it and it is not a taboo but instead celebrated and almost required if your attending social gatherings and a stigma if you don't participate. Add that with many people in denial about their reliance and consumption and you have a huge mess that continues to harm society.

    Very true but sad!

That being sad, big part of kpop and kdrama consumption comes from underage kids, so it would have been much better if companies, agencies, producers, movie directors included less of those scenes!

  • I also thought it was kinda crazy because it isn't what I'm used to.

Yeah just look at Lovely Runner! The female Lead unawarely drinks alcohol as a high schooler, but was that scene necessary? I don’t think so. Kdrama writers and directors be putting drinking with every single transition scene, sad and happy scenes and etc.

I still don't see that much of an issue. Underage drinking in the US is much higher than in South Korea, even with greater restrictions on youth advertising. Various companies will use various celebrities to advertise their products. In the US, there is a major ad campaign using Marvel characters to advertise alcohol (I can't remember the brand), but there's no big uproar about that. This seems overblown.

In my opinion, the real advertising issue with K-pop idols isn't with alcohol but luxury brands. It's a huge problem with South Korean youth from everything that I've seen, and this is celebrated not just in Korea but among international fans as well.

  • in kdramas is a must. THe use to put the main couple in situations like:1- i got drunk and told the truth

2-i got drunk, fell on a very unreal way and my romantic interest caught me. 3-someone got me intentionally drunk and did something shaddy to me.

and the scripts are soooo bad and cringe.

did blackpink release a new album today?'s tweet - "#LALISA ACAB, aquí solo respetamos a la POLISA " - TrendsmapID BI****S

Well it is mostly related to kdramas, but it is slowly lurking more and more into kpop world too!

Well you see Alcoholism in US blew up in 20th century, but in Korea it is blowing up recently! It is also due to the work culture of Korea too! But as many people describe kpop and kdramas as pure and innocent isn’t working, lol! If underage kdrama and kpop fans in Korea and in other lesser alcoholic countries will continue to watch that, they will eventually reach the level of US alcoholism.

About luxury brands, well everybody nowadays became materialistic even without of those advertisements! It is just how consumer- oriented capitalism works! Also, Korea is still not as developed as US, so people in developing countries will buy everything cause they have never tried that shiny thing before! But I would argue that Americans are more materialistic than Koreans in other ways

It’s not even in romance related dramas! Like it is everywheeere ! Like I haven’t seen recently a kdrama without excessive drinking of alcohol!

Yeah, but it's not an issue at the moment, and it may not be a bigger issue. The US wishes its underage drinking percentage was as low as South Korea's. That can also be curbed with proper parenting. And South Koreans aren't making too many kids these days anyway, so it's not too bad.

South Korean kids over jackets costing several hundreds of dollars and other things. This is certainly fueled, in part, by K-pop luxury.

  • Such a joke thread. There's drinking culture in every corner of the world and it's not limited to just SK. Kids these days shouldn't be talking about alcohol.

Not in every corner of the world for sure!!!

Most Muslim majority countries are not alcoholic at all, heck many Muslims haven’t even tried any type of alcohol in their life!

And here in this thread I’m talking about excessive alcohol scenes in kdramas and variety shows, which sometimes even turns away a person who drinks alcohol usually!

  • I don't think bad alcohol habits are specific toKorea only. I am not Korean but I think that even people in my country are going overboard. Many start their day with alcohol and I hate how normalized it is.

What we have to give to Korea, is that they have culture of so called substitute driver. 24/7 available service where you can literally call someone to pick you up and your vehicle when you are too drunk to drive. So I like that they kinda acknowledged this problem and realized that they can't have both alcohol and drunk drivers. I wish my country did something similar ngl

~ Retired exol, don't ask me about that group. ~

Of course it’s not, but you don’t see this much drinking scenes in Hollywood, Bollywood or other countries’ movie industries?! Variety shows are also wild considering that majority of K-pop fans are minors!

On top of that KoreanTV, Korean idols, actors celebs promote those brands non stop on national media

  • drinking is a Korean national sport. If you've ever been there you know.

Alcohol is also subsidized by the gov and dirt cheap.

as someone who drinks a lot, I don't complain lol. but if you're out late you'll see a lot of inebriated individuals for sure.

  • But wine is the least harmful alcohol if I’m not mistaken :iconpepe:

If I am, then I just don’t know a lot about alcohol because I haven’t tried any alcohol, lol

Beer nad hard seltzers are less alcoholic. Even beer will kill you if you drink enough over a short enough period of time lol

I haven’t been to Korea, but from what I see in their dramas, movies, variety shows and etc. I just imagine everyone being drunk after the work especially at weekends

alcohol is poison, it's no better than tobacco. Wine is even more harmful since it has more ABV (alcohol by volume) compared to other beverages like beer and seltzer

  • I personally quite enjoy seeing K-pop idols consume alcohol, since doing so somewhat "humanises" them. In fact, one of my favourite YouTube series is "Tipsy Live", produced by Dingo Music. I especially liked Wonder Girls' performance of "Why So Lonely", which I notice was just age-restricted, probably because the members got too drunk:

  • Then good for me because I don’t drink nor smoke lol :pepe-hehe:

Also, I don’t like the smell of both those things, so I freak out when someone will vape or drink near me

Like they say; sobriety is the greatest gift one could give themselves.

tho saying that, next minute some junkie comes up to you on the street and injects you with heroin. Hooked for life
