It’s kind of sad for Wendy

  • The most talented female vocalist of her generation and not even nearly as successful as Irene post controversy. She probably wants to stay in SM like Seulgi but SM only keeps their favorites, visuals and those who can make them the most money.

  • Wendy become a decently popular radio host, lot of idols visited her program. If it was just for my solo career I would stay in sm eating crumbs, it's better than going to a irrelevant, uncertain future, low tier company, look no further than got7 members for examples. The only reason they should go is if they don't renew as 5 and can obtain the rights of red velvet to keep the group outside sm, even if their lose all the sm producers, is better than be on the dungeon for 1 year assisting small festivals and kcons sometimes, is pretty embarrassing for a girl group of rv caliber still doing that at this point of their careers, not doing any actual concert or tour.

  • Luna is a perfect example of how that's not the case. Wendy is following in her footsteps, despite that not being her choice

Wendy's album sold like over 100k more copies than Luna's did, it's not the same situation at all. I think it would be better for her to stay in SM regardless tho, and I think SM clearly wants her to renew, because they always want everyone to renew. The RV brand is still profitable and it's always better to have the full group together.

  • I'm sorry, but Kpop fans need to learn to ignore "popularity" and "success".

REAL artists, like Wendy, doesn't care about how many people buy her albums, her concert tickets or stream her songs. We should be happy that she didn't stop and still making music. Her solo career just started, basically, and everyone who knows something about Korean music, not just Kpop, knows that being a soloist in Korea, is the hardest thing, because Kpop groups and trot singers are the only ones who can dominate the industry, and giants like Taeyeon or IU.

99% of the soloist are not even half as successful as an average Kpop group.

Also, just because they don't have 100M+ streams and 1M post about them on social media every day, doesn't mean, they're not successful.

    1st mini album:

Total Sales in South Korea (Circle): 184,620 copies sold

    2nd mini album:

Total Sales in South Korea (Circle): 143,672 copies sold

    Teayeon's 'To X' album:

Total Sales in South Korea (Circle): 154,857 copies sold

Taeyeon's numbers are between 100-250K usually.

    Moonbyul's 1st album:

Total Sales in South Korea (Circle): 115,594 copies sold

I put Byul here for comparison to a small agency soloist. Selling more than 100K as a soloist nowadays, is pretty much a miracle, honestly. Even at a BIG4 agency.

Even IU's numbers aren't that strong. Her 3 best-selling albums:

    LILAC: 430,179 copies sold

    The Winning: 378,957 copies sold

    Love Poem: 263,175 copies sold

The rest is under 200K, but mostly 100K.

  • Wendy's vocals don't demand the kind of respect that Taeyeon's vocals do. That being said, it's always difficult for soloists to make it in Kpop. They have to be actresses or Variety show queens to get more attention.

Taeyeon built her career from her rookie days where she was seriously promoted as a Ost vocalist something that both Luna and Wendy didn't have until several years after their debut.

Taeyeon also had her Snsd career which put her on a level of the main vocalist of the most successful Kpop group at their prime. In fact, I expect her to have way better numbers that Wendy's given her talent, exposure and experience.

Kpop is generally brutal to soloists who aren't considered visuals by Korean standards.

Wendy is killing it given the mediocre promotions RV gets from SM and and their solo promotions and there's nothing sad about that.

  • This has very little to do with their vocal ability , it's bc Taeyeon it's liked for her looks not just her voice

It goes hand on hand as much as people think visuals don't matter

Korea never like the way Luna looked and they tolerate Wendy looks but that is not enough considering u got more visuals of disbanded ggs thriving that their main vocals

  • that weirdo account that acts like an insider posted this back in april, no renewal news until next year according to Daol Investment & Securities
