    Welcome europop lovers! I know our kpop minds are elsewhere these days ( :skull: ), but if you take a quick look at your calendars you can see that May is just around the corner. And of course that means... Eurovision is coming! 2x2x2x2x2x

    This year the shows will be starting from May 7th and ending on May 11th, which means it's a little bit less than 2 weeks left. So prepare your snacks, your drinks, your flags, the glittery hats, megaphones, hamster wheels, cute grandmothers, violins, fireworks and accordions because the europarty is opening soon! 2x

    I know we have a good number of Europeans in this forum who like to watch Eurovision, so I'm creating this thread for us to discuss this year's event, songs, artists, predictions for the results, etc as we do every year. But, most importantly, so that we can do watch parties for the 3 live shows! 3x

    Eurovision watch parties are definitely among the fondest memories I have after 3 years in this forum and I want it to be a tradition every year :holding-back-tears:

    Here is a summary of the competing songs this year, if you haven't listened to them yet and if you fancy having a little spoiler:

    And let me tag a few users who were around during last year's watch party 2x

    Disclaimer:

    There are 37 competing nations in Eurovision this year and as you probably know, Israel is one of them. Of course, there is a lot of controversy surrounding this participation and the song choice. I know this is a very sensitive topic as it touches on politics and it is understandably a very large elephant in the room, but I would like to @@@ad07044a-b196-42dc-bada-52d0505c8749@@@ everyone to avoid diving too deep into this subject in this thread specifically, as we wouldn't want our watch party thread to be moved to the politics section or even worse, being closed. If you want to discuss politics please do it in the current events section. : )

    Likewise! I always had a good laugh

    Croatian uncles fanclub :meme-oh-yes:

  • Every year I adopt uncles from different countries, it's tradition:

    2021 -> Polish uncle

    2022 -> Moldovan uncles

    2023 -> Croatian uncles

    2024 -> ? :/ but I see potential in Estonia

  • Do you think any of those countries could win this year?

    Well... I don't think so.

    Denmark would maybe get a lot of votes from juries. Which is also what happened in the national final, that Saba got the most votes from the jury. (but I feel like a lot of the public votes probably were just a bunch of Faroese voting for the Faroese guy, who ended up third.)

    Sometimes when Sweden have won, Danes have sometimes made jokes that Denmark would win next.

    Well, Malmö is hosting this year and it's literally one bridge away from Denmark (and it's a lovely city, visited earlier this year). I'm sure travelling to Eurovision will be a breeze for Danish eurofans this year so I expect a lot of cheers for Denmark

  • Oh, I remember that late in December, I just for fun wrote who would win this year's Eurovision before any of the contestants were announced.

    And I randomly wrote Armenia.

    But I guess that song won't win, even though I kinda like it.

    This one is super cute! I love to hear native languages and culture in Eurovision <3

  • I have heard Europapa (the Dutch entry) a lot on Belgian radio and it's on top of the Spotify chart there.

    I'm also a hardstyle/hardcore enthusiast and the last drop is oldschool hardcore, reminiscent of the 90s gabber scene, which had struggles to survive in the last two decades but is getting a revival with the famous Thunderdome festival coming back. So, when Europapa dropped the community was celebrating purely for the hardcore drop.

    If you don't know what gabber looks like, she has the look and the dance (hakken) down.

    I doubt the song will win but just wanted to share from a hardcore fan's perspective, I loved the crossover :send-love-bunny:

  • Netherlands is my fav this year along with Italy, this song is like crack ^^ Joost's songs are so satisfying to listen to, I love fast bpm hardcore eurodance. :pepe-grooving:

    I think it could get a really good result, because it has so many views on YouTube already. By far the most watched video of the year. :eyes:

    Woah, I haven't followed closely, just noticed it popping up in some places. Interesting!

    I think I liked the Italy entry as well but I have only browsed so far, I need to catch up and give everything a proper listen :music-raccoon:

  • I wasn't really into Eurovision this year and I'm sad. My health was so-so and i didn't think about it, i guess. I heard a lot of songs on spotify but i need to match them with countries ^^

    I'll be hear and I'll be ready! Better start now! :peperun:

    Eta: out of all that o heard of i like Croatia most, but they will be ruined by juries like kaarija was X/

    Sorry to hear about that, hope you are now better <3

    Oh baby lasagna ^^ at first I wasn't a fan of the song but I've warmed up to it, it's pretty fun and indeed reminds me of Finland last year. :/ My only wish is that is was sung in Croatian. Why not always sing in this beautiful language? :love: it should be a law ;judgingpepe:

    There are over 3k posts in hybe/mhj mess and none of them is mine ^^ but I'm aware of the mess, rip. As long as bts aren't involved i couldn't care less lol. Anyways!

    I'm so happy my neighboring country has a song everyone likes! It's been way too long and finally there won't be talk if they were qualify or not, they are there! I know juries will ruin everything, I'm still not over kaarija :wave-cry-raccoon:

    I don't think they resemble melodically but they do vibe wize. I'm excited! I wouldn't mind if they sang in croatian, i speak the language :p I'd feel like koreans when foreigners listen to kpop ^^

  • Germany? We will see. I think the song is not bad actually. :/

    We had some way better songs to choose from, but nothing to spectacular as always, since national TV says "no" to almost anything... you can see it if you go back in time: sea chanty band - no, metalcore band - no, gothic-pop band - no, etc. etc. and these are often the more preffered choices by the general public for representing the country, but national TV be like: "Ignore what the public wants, just say they suck and are not allowed to represent us cause their song is not radio friendly". Last year we ditched the national TV and voted via TikTok, but it was also not the best cause we send a metalband and nobody liked it in the other countries :(

    You see from this list of who we could've chosen this year that it kinda sucks a bit. We have so many great and talented, sometimes even world famous artists and they never apply because they get told no and it sucks. All the people who then apply for the show where we vote who will represent us end up to be mainly boring ass artists, that mostly nobody ever heard of and might not even will hear of again when ESC ends.

    This is from the 2023 and you see, since we had done it via TikTok instead of national TV, the selection was quit more diverse to choose from

    I don't think Croatia has ever won Eurovision, right? Serbia has I know this, but I would love to see the Eurovision in a country like Croatia :love: It's not my favorite song but I'll be happy for them if they win or get a really good result.

    Yeah the juries are always party poopers, I won't forget what they did to my uncles X/ Hopefully this year they will have learnt their lesson ( :meme-doubt: )

    It's that time of the year again,hence I have been summoned!

    While I've admittedly been out of the k-pop sphere for a while,I am down for another ESC party.The last few years we've done were so much fun :ak_jeonginclap:

    Needless to say as a Croatian,this year is extra special :pepe-sad: after years in the shadows we're considered potential winners and I couldn't happier about it.Super hyped for this year

  • Ooooooh this will be exciting for you! What are the expectations in general in Croatia?

    I remember when my country was a favorite to win some years ago (for the first time ever), everyone was hyped as well but no one actually believed we would win because it was hard to imagine such scenario. Then we did win and it felt so surreal. ^^ I remember calling my mom in the middle of the voting and we were like "what is happening??? :pepe-life-support: we are winning?? :pepewhat: "

    I don't remember the last time this country cared about anything this much that isn't football lmao

    Personally,I will be happy with top 3,that will already be our best result yet :holding-back-tears:

  • wow omg I love this! :uwu-party-bee:

    I think top 3 is very possible. Fingers crossed :blushing:

    I like it too but I'm not very sure of our chances to qualify to the final ;(

  • These are the results according to the jury

    I disagree with whole top 7, delete them all and place Greece as forst. Thank u!

    I'm laughing if Germany even makes it out of the last 5 ranks this year at least.

    I wished that some of the acts people actually want to see would represent the country. Some people say we should try it with Lena again, others say they hope we could get a chance where the national TV finally alows Electric Callboy to aply again, since in 2022 the band was told no (due to the fact that they are metalcore, but they are world famous and have great music, so people got very pissed at that time when the band was cancled) and yeah, I wonder what will happen this year with our quit average and not too outstanding artist.

    For 2025 people already see a bit more of hope, cause a TV-show host/singer who retired from the show business said he would return to the public and help finding our artist for 2025 again. And you see, in years every time where this guy, his name is Stefan Raab produced the artist's song or even casted them in shows, we had way better results than in years where he wasn't doing it. And you especially see it in the years after he retired from the show business, where we had no good ranks at all (except for that 1 year where we reached #4 with Michael Schulte, but this only happend doe to that people got compassion for his song, since he sung about that his father passed away and his mom worked hard on rasing him and his siblings)

    So yeah, I wonder what will happen. I mean would be weird if we actually would reach a good place this year. But from what I saw on YT, it seems more like that people already have their preffered choices. Many seem to preffer Greece, Israel, Lithuania, Poland, Switzerland, UK or Sweden. But unironicaly it could be that the Netherland win. Many people wonder why the song of Joost Klein was so popular since "ew its techno" but he got a lot fame recently, especially due to his song "Friesenjung" that charted like crazy in Germany in 2023. And his song is also actually a banger that he released for ESC.

  • I like Germany's song, I really don't think it will end last like what usually happens. Though I thought the same thing last year and well... :pepe-just-smile:
