Are we in 4th or 5th generation right now?

    Why do we consider 3rd Gen starting when it did?

    Why do we consider 2nd Gen starting when it did?


    Because Groups that happened to debut in those Years went on to be Industry leaders, eventually equaling or displacing the Leaders of the Previous Generation either by their Growth and/or the Previous Gens Leaders Decline


    I will Die on this Hill that 2018 being the start of the 4th Gen is nonsense


    If anything we are in that Transition period where 4th Gen acts have debuted but yet to catch the Previous Gens Top Acts or maybe only just now have?


    I mean 2023 is the first Year you could even make an argument with a straight Face that the Biggest GirlGroup in the World wasn't BlackPink but a newer Group (you would have been wrong but at least it was a reasonable argument)


    And as for no BoyGroup comparing to BTS yet, you got to understand that BTS' success is Historic to a degree that is unfathomable to all that came before, if ever there was an extended delay between Generations it would make sense it came on the back of that


    Also you don't need a BG to displace BTS, 3rd Gen started with EXO well before top 3rd Gen GG's debuted so the same could be going on here in the inverse


    I suspect 4th Gen began around late 2021 or 2022 with the Duo of NewJeans and IVE but I am not certain of that yet

    So since 4th Gen is alive and kicking with more groups expected to debut this year and a lot of 3rd gen groups slowing down/not releasing as actively as they had before.

    Hypothetically speaking, What THIRD gen group do you think will survive by the time 5th Gen comes around?? (Which I assume will be 2025 Plus/ 4 years time)

    For me it is illit, kiof, riize and that new pledis group... and even baemon. They already had significant success this year , 5th gen talk feels real now.

    There's not enough real pushback against media trying to pass it off as 5th gen like there was when they tried passng off NewJeans as 5th gen and because NewJeans/IVE/Gidle as 4th gen groups are so dominant, these group actually need the distinctions to have any achievements to write articles about, so it's effectively 5th gen.

    I have said it before:

    1. "Generations" have more or less lost it meaning as a concept. I made some sence with 1/2/3 gernations, but today it just don't make much sence anymore,

    2. People don't grasp the conept or have interpret it differently.


    But if we need to talk about "genarations" I would say we are in the first stage of the 4th generation. I would say NJ maybe was the start of the 4th generation for the girlgroups.
