I wonder if GP never really liked Itzy's songs since the beginning

  • Public basically didn't have a choice for a big new shiny gg from huge companies back then compared to now, where they have a variety of popular 4th gen girl groups to listen to. Itzy debuted as the first girl group from the Big 3, so people simply embraced whatever they came out with. The group basically born with no competition at all. Yet, it's quite obvious that when Aespa debuted, they already started to overshadow Itzy. I don't think it's really a coincidence. In 2022, when all the anticipated new groups debuted (Ive, Kep1er, Nmixx, Lsf, Nj), Itzy almost lost their hype if it weren't for Chaeryeong suddenly going viral. By 2023, as these groups made names for themselves, Itzy basically 'disappeared' from the general public and K-netizens' eyes. Their recently cb songs are good and Untouchable is being accepted well from what I see, but it didn't change anything for them.

Aespa has been able to maintain their position quite comfortably even with almost a year-long hiatus. So, gp really love their sounds that they're still able to compete in this tough 4th gen gg competition. Yet, Itzy hasn't been able to do the same. They are suddenly forgotten.

So, I wonder if their songs were actually never loved from the beginning, and it's just because the general public didn't have a second choice as I said above.

Is short, if they debuted in 2022, public opinions about Dalla Dalla might change and they probably view it as a fail debut.

  • they had good music in the beginning though. i liked wannabe and dalla dalla (icy was a hard miss) but afterwards it just didn’t hit right despite having the rare good release like loco. itzy was always known for their strong unique performances which made them stand out a lot. but now groups like lesserafim and nmixx are doing wonders on the stage and a way better job than itzy imo. with so many new groups clouding the market, it’s obvious the gp moves quickly onto the next big thing. jyp shouldn’t have debuted nmixx so soon after them. as the youngest girl group, they had some sort of attention to them. but regardless, they’re still not nugu in korea (big 4 privilege) so the right song could give them a push maybe — similar to sneakers. but i think jyp would rather focus on nmixx as they have so much potential.

  • It's just normal, groups from big established companies will always get a boost of popularity and hype before and at the debut, but after the first 1-2 years the hype dies a bit and it's more important the groups deliver. ITZY just have too many boring songs, even if they have some good ones. Aespa is pretty similar in my opnion. ITZY also have the problem of debuting at the peak of Twice and BP. A group like NJ have the benefit of debuting when Twice and BP are in decline already for some years. But it will be intresting to see how NJ can keep the moment during 2024-2025, I have big doubts about them.

  • Korean people never cared about itzy beyond dalla dalla. All their other songs have mid to flop to no charting.

International stans liked them until the release of sneakers. Most were put off by it and also new ggs like nj,Ive,lsf were just putting out much more pleasing sound.

Jyp didn't have what it takes to get them out of floppery.

  • Actually besides dalla dalla, itzy charting was never S tier or else they pretty much charted like StayC is doing now

People just exaggerated their charting, not shy, wannabe, icy performance in korean chart were mid

And i actually think that they were the only big 4 new gg at this moment so it help them to give a bigger exposure

But when other big 4 debuted they quickly overshadow them which prove that itzy popularity was never really strong in korea or they would have made a bigger fight against other gg

And actually their songs now like loco, cheshire etc .. aren't very different from what they did in debut but still flopped

  • Itzy is one of the many "boy groups in drag" the industry was pushing at the time of their debut. NewJeans ended that nonsense for good, but many in the industry are still struggling to recalibrate.

With a more feminine approach and a name that didn't sound like a skin condition, Itzy could have been a lot bigger - the members themselves have the looks and the talent.

  • General public are like sheep. They only go for what is currently trending. When they don't perceive something as trendy they don't go for it. When the y2k sounds becomes stale they'll hate it too.
