Kpop stans are funny when it comes to debuts (strong case of cognitive bias that always lead to recency bias)

Where was the massive hate to Attention or Eleven? I think in this cases sometimes we tend to focus too much in this hate, so looks like is massive, but is not. I mean, in comparison with the love this songs receive, i think calling the hate massive is a mistake.

Every says a song is bad. Then it charts high, then everyone says its good.

Huh? Everyone loved Attention and REALLY loved Hype Boy. The inclusion of NewJeans really doesn't assist with the premise of your thread. They debuted with no warning and people loved their music on first listen.

I'd also say there is more confirmation bias at play than recency bias with regards to your thread

O.O is the only song on the list that I'd agree K-pop stans hated on, but that's it, the rest majority of fans loved.

I don’t know what you’re talking about, Attention and Eleven were highly praised debut songs.

O.O was the only song I saw with overwhelmingly negative reviews and the effects show even till today because nmixx is no where near the level of NJs and IVE. A good debut song matters. If your debut is bad people are less inclined pay attention to your comeback unless you go viral.

Batter up isn’t a bad song, it’s just not living up to the expectations of being BLACKPINK’s sister group. The song might rise but everyone’s reaction is pretty justified given the song, concept, waiting time.

Well there is a rule on kpop, no matter how shitty a song is give it 3 months an a crowd of people will start talking about how good it actually was, that the hate was forced and that they get it the first time unlike the rest... even when the song is still the same shitty garbage.

Most of those songs listed are mid little catchy songs or messy catchy songs, you can't expect people to just like the very low quality products kpop companies have been feeding us for some time from the get go, some people have to brainwash themselves by listening tons of times to like their faves latest music. Like eleven is a very boring song people liked for some reason, so is understandable if lot of people didn't get that snoozefest from the beginning.

The songs with negative reception but still popular iirc are Black Mamba, O.O, Wadada, Cookie

The songs ended up major hits overall were...LVER, Latata, Dalla Dalla, Eleven, Fearless, Attention, Hype Boy

Minor popularity are So Bad, Bon Bon Chocolate, Shhh, Pandora, Generation etc

Nmixx's debut song was a mess yes batter up isn't revolutionary and could have been better, but it's hilarious people hyping O.O when it was lowkey most hated song when it was released.

I didn't listen to Eleven on debut, it took me a few weeks to listen to it the first time, and wasn't until love Dive that I really started appreciating Eleven.

Wasn't in kpop when Dalla Dalla dropped but it's one of my least favourite Itzy main singles

Didn't like Attention or Hype Boy much when they debuted. Attention especially I remember pausing at least twice during first listen to do other things, so the 3 minute song took 10 minutes to get through, that's how engaged I was. Still not a fan of either.

O.O was toilet then, it's sewage now.

Batter Up is just not an exciting song. It's not BAD, but it's not really much of anything. It's just a song that released in 2023.

The best debuts that I've been around for, personally, are Fearless and Shhh
