Nmixx has more vocal talents than Twice, but why can't they have Twice's charting success?

  • Knetz and ifans always complain that Twice and Momo's lack of vocal talents bring down the group, but now that JYP debuts a group with all vocalists, people let Nmixx flop on charts. People excuse O.O and Dice charting as experimental songs (even though Aespa can get hits with even more experimental songs), but now that Nmixx makes easy listening songs, the songs flop too. Does this mean people don't care about vocal skills?

This song sounds like a Twice song with better vocals, but the song isn't charting anywhere.

I know you are a troll, but whatever, I'll bite.

The issue isn't how "experimental" a song is - it's about the songwriting and audio engineering.

Next Level was a song they brought from the Fast and Furious OST and had a very palatable bass synth lead in and elements, which allowed them to change the form appropriately (the form of which was already done in early 2000's hits, like Sugababes).

O.O, particularly, started off very off-putting, and the audio engineering and production was not at anywhere near the level of Next Level. They made their best vocal shout their high notes instead of bringing it down a notch and letting it fill the soundscape. They made the "change" the conceit, instead of it being a catchy, well engineered song and having a change that keeps it fresh. They didn't understand why a song like Next Level worked at all.

People excused O.O and Dice because quite frankly they just weren't very good songs. People may enjoy them, and their are certainly enjoyable elements to be had, but at their core i think the production and songwriting was subpar, or tried to do more then what they were capable of doing.

But then they didn't learn their lessons, and pivoted from distinct, if very flawed songs, to outright generic songs, which are interchangeable. Nmixx's last comeback could almost be an Itzy song and the pre-release could fit in as a Twice song.

Why listen to the copy when the originals are still around?

TLDR - You're a troll, JYP have no idea how to pick a song (or write a song) for Nmixx and misuse the talents they have on mediocre songs.

  • Love Me Like This is generic? lol i dont think so. It's not a SOTY but it's perfectly competent with a real catchy chorus that contrasts nicely with the verses. And it did well charting, it even peaked in the top 10 of Melon Top 100 iirc.

Well, you've certainly put a hole in my argument, obviously there's never been a generic song before that's entered the top 10 of melon.

Describes a stock standard pop song - "See, not generic at all".

    ???

Love Me Like This absolutely is generic.

Generic isn't a marker of quality. But the song aint breaking any new ground music wise.

It's a standard pop rnb track.

  • ^ that song wasn't even good, and its rare for a song to organically shoot from below 90 to #4, unless its viral.

All of Twice's initial songs in terms of song quality were great to excellent. Nmixx's songs in terms of song quality have been really bad to slightly above average.

  • I checked out the discussion you shared. It's cool that people are recognizing NMIXX's vocal talents! Getting on the charts is a mix of many things – not just talent, but timing, promotions, and what the audience vibes with. TWICE has a big following, and they've earned their chart positions over the years. NMIXX might have awesome vocals, but breaking into charts takes time and strategy. Let's hope they keep shining and gaining more traction in the music scene!
