Lyrics absolutely matter, even in pop music, otherwise you'll only appeal to an audience as vapid as your music. Maybe Koreans won't care about cringey English lyrics, but the people in the English-speaking markets Kpop wants to appeal to will definitely notice & care.

It's a dumb as fuck point. Cause going "some people hate thing" can be used for literally everything. There's no universal love in music and ypu'll find just as much deriders of sophsiticated lyricism as vapid fun tracks.
Shit's subjective. But fact of the matter is, pop at its most standard has never been deeply engrossing or thought provoking music.

I will say this. Kwinka is not a bad song, i'm certifying it as a bop, a 7 out of 10. The lyrics are cringey af no doubt about it, but my bone to pick with Soyeon is that she has no respect for English. She knows better, yet she continues to churn out cheese after brutally bad grammar after cheese (same with the doofus at SM and that Aespa cover that i'm still pissed about lol). And she has plenty of friends like literal Somi right down the street to ask for help in reviewing and correcting the English grammar, diction, syntax, style, and vocab.
Like imagine if Taylor Swift decided to incorporate Spanish or even Korean lyrics into one of her new songs. But she didnt give a rip about trying to do it right, she just wrote some rando gibberish and stuff she remembered from Spanish 101 or Korean 101 in college. Didnt bother to get it reviewed or proofed or edited, but just RECORDED THE SONG WITH TERRIBLE SPANISH OR KOREAN LYRICS AND PUBLISHED IT FOR THE ENTIRE WORLD TO HEAR.
The entire Internet would break. Swift would be killed by Spanish speakers, or KNETZ, and tons of locals who would be hurling every insult under the sun at her - no respect for other cultures, cultural appropriation, maybe even accusations of xenophobia or racism for not taking foreign languages seriously, etc etc. She wouldnt hear the end of it and most likely she would have had to issue a huge apology or even taken down the song.
And coming back to Soyeon and Gidle, just listen to how amazing I DO is, look at what Gidle is capable of when they get help from 88Rising. It's a 10 out of 10, it's basic af in terms of structure and way too short, but HOLY HELL the lyrics were perfect and the music was just a dream. I normally would never give a song this short and simple a 10 but i cant help it, it's almost everything i could ever wish for in a modern pop song (a guitar solo would have been even more perfect though

Note: I also would love if Soyeon has English lessons and has someone who help her with her English lyrics. But looking down on her just because sheās non native English speaker is not it.

Your argument reeks of pretentiousness. Tons of people have derided sophisticated lyrics for things beyond just vapidity. There's ecerything from lacking coherence, muddying the listenability of a song, making a song come across more as sermon than message.
To just go "sophisticated lyrics are infallible" shows far more lack of understanding of nuance and the building blocks of music than anything a lover of vapid music can do by just going "I think the beat sounds nice."

Also find it hilarious gow folks just think soyeon has no grasp on the concept of english grammar when there's clear prood to the contrary. Not to say she's fluent or anything, but it's pretty obvious most of her grammar choices are 100% intentional cause she knows what she thinks sounds good to a korean ear.
There's videos of her telling the others to pronounce stuff wrong knowing how it should be said correctly and opting not to cause it flows better for the song.
Songs like Latata and Hann and Uh Oh have lines of perfect grammar. She's not completely unaware of how sentences are supposed to work...
but the question is "Does that shit hit?"
