How do you stan?

this is how I stan

Monsta X - listen obsessively to their music (top .005 of their listeners on Spotify), have attended two of their concerts, bought albums/ merch, have seen clips of some of their content/variety, try to know about their music activities, reasonably aware of their other activities, feel like I know a relatively decent amount about their public personalities

EXO - listen obsessively to their music, no concerts since i became a fan, bought album/merch, know about their activities due to the exotics, have seen a few clips of their content/ variety but not enough to say I know what their public personalities are like except to say Baekhyun seems loud

Got7 - listen to quite a bit of their music but not as much as the others, no concerts since I became a fan, I have some albums/merch, have seen tons of their content since I used to have a friend that was really into watching them, know more about them personality-wise than MX or EXO and enjoy their interactions a lot

I don't follow any of them on social media, cuz I don't really use that.

You know why i feel like i am an exo stan? It's coz of the emotion i feel when i listen to them. Sometimes I'll have them on in the background and I'll just stop what I'm doing to just listen. It sounds so beautiful to me that I love it.

I took a bit of a break from akp too, but I've never stopped listening either. Actually, I'm super busy right now but made sure to log in this past week coz I didn't want to miss it if we got a kai limited edition badge. Guess we're not getting one though.

We're a bit similar i think. I love my faves' music and performances. They bring me a lot of pleasure. The rest of kpop culture, like being part of a fandom and coming here, I view as a hobby. I know i don't have a relationship with them. I don't know their true selves. I don't think they're "angels" that I need to help or protect. I think they're talented people who likely do some stuff cuz they want to and other stuff cuz it's part of their jobs. At the end of the day, I'm a consumer and i buy what they are selling along with loving their art. I do enjoy leaning into parts of the kpop stan culture cuz i think it's fun. For example, I consider Baekhyun to be my kpop husband and love to talk about him. He's amazing and I love his voice most out of all the vocals in kpop. but on the other hand I don't follow his social media, watch his lives, or know what he's up to for the most part until I read it here. I don't even know how birthday. Hmm, I guess we have a terrible marriage!

As for thirsting, I'll admit that I love it when they look handsome in costume. They're all so pretty and look amazing in their concepts!

Not sure if this held back EXO in some ways but I’m okay with it tbh. It is what it is.

My perception is that it's pretty well known that they don't play into the fan service or try to feed the parasocial connection like a lot of groups. They're not commodifying themselves or making their inner selves part of the deal with their fans. In the kpop environment, it pbly does hold them back. Their music is enough for me though. I don't need Baekhyun to bear his soul for his music to touch me.
