Does kpop breed insecurity in its fandoms? Or are insecure people more drawn to kpop?

  • I have this theory that the one true currency in Kpop is validation, especially if we take validation as the "cure" for insecurity.

And it's obvious that seeking validation is a huge part of kpop fan behaviour, whether that's through attacking other groups/fans/labels, or sasaeng behavior, or endless stan culture and promotion

But I wonder which comes first? Does kpop instill these behaviours, or do less secure people feel more drawn to the kpop fandom?

I do think that companies are very aware of this behaviour and even comment on it from time to time (Heesoo in the "Ditto" MV, encouraging bulk buying, endless PR battles even when discussing company business)

  • insecure stans become success stans of kpop

The moment a group does well, it seems like that group becomes their entire personality.

It's quiet funny to see some users here switch from one successful group to next and literally over haul their internet persona with it too. They must be insecure to a great degree for that to happen.

  • Probably both, but i feel this could be applied to anything. Capitalism always, ALWAYS profit from insecurity, always have and always will. And kpop is just one of the many ways we can see how insecurity influences it.

People always will be drawn to something that they lack irl. I also feel some ppl just get an edge from being shit stirrers, like trolls or something. Sometimes it really is in their nature and i dont think its up to us to judge it. No one here on planet earth is like the other lol, sometimes we just have to admit some ppl are built different

it's a balance, because it's not like preferences don't change over time, esp for younger users. but when each and every group they stan happens to be the one breaking records that season, well-

edit: I can't wait to start stanning baemon when those preorder numbers drop

  • also i think insecurity depends from someone to another, let me use astrology to illustrate it even if u guys think its bs

some ppl just love to brag about what they can and they feel insecure if they dont have someone to give them validation (leos) some ppl like perfection more than others and their main insecurity is criticism (virgos) some ppl just love being popular and their insecurity is to be hated (libras) some ppl LOVE success their insecurity is being a fail (capricorns) i could go on and on.

So before we talk about insecurity, we must define what kind of insecurity. So yeah success stans are definitely ppl w capricorn in their chart

fascinating, i'm an aries, where does insecurity/bragging lie for me

  • DID YOU JUST CALL ME INSECURE?!

Stop calling me out. KPOP first pulled me in because I was fascinated to see people who looked similar to me being popular on screen! I grew up without that and yes, it did make me very insecure.

Imagine being the kid who got told they were very good at speaking, emoting, encouraged to try some acting, only to realize all the big roles got given to the white kids no matter how good I was...

Yeah when I made this thread I wondered if it would hit somewhat close to home for some people. I know it's not cool to take pride in the achievements of strangers, but I can't help but feel good for all the artsy asian kids the world over

ppl with aries love being the strong one their insecurity is being weak, physical or/and mental

Keep in mind though sun is just like "your main core" but the signs in other planets can tell u more and can have stronger influence esp if u have a stellium which is more than 3 of the same sign in ur chart

Rising is how u act and look like to others

    Moon is emotions

    Mercury is pattern of thinking

    Venus is relationships

    Mars is action

Jupiter expansion and knowledge (generations tend to have the same)

    Neptune is imagination (//)

Saturn is restriction and tough lessons (//)

    Pluto is power (//)

Your houses and the angles in the planets make in your chart influence too, but thats for ppl who are advanced in astrology like me 8)

Looks like a lot of info but its just basic stuff for ppl who read natal charts

Our asian ethnicity is visible on our faces - and we are judged on that every day. I'm not ashamed to admit that at first I got heavy into KPOP because it had entered the West. That may not be my reason for sticking around, but it is still important to me. Because while yes, I entered to cheer it on, it also meant things were changing, if not as quickly as I hoped, little by little. Maybe one day my children, nephews and nieces won't grow up feeling like I did. It's not cool you say? Oh, but it is.

I agree with this so much but I've always listened to Asian music no matter if ppl elsewhere looked down on it. They didn't know what they were missing and as an Asian person, I'm proud that Asian artists are gaining recognition for their talent and hard work too.

But this discussion re 'insecurity' ---- nope; it's not limited to KPOP fans lol. Insecure people EVERYWHERE - at work, in society, and especially online.

It worked in a similar way to me, but in a twisted way. One of the reasons i felt at home with kpop was bc the bodies were skinny as mine, and i used to be very insecure about being thin since it was one of the things ppl used to bully me about in school since i was a kid, i thought i was unattractive bc of that. Even friends would comment about it bc they thought it was weird. Seeing similar bodies without anyone saying anything felt very validating to me. It felt oddly comfortable at that time.

  • The primary demographic that Kpop Companies aim for are Minors, that is 19 years and under, they also make up a large number of fans in South Korea.

The Non-Korean fans are mainly supporting the Visuals whether that be the Members, Choreography or the Videotography, it all comes down to something Visual. So it's not uncommon for those Kpop fans to claim Idols as Spouses, Parents, Kids etc.

When you get a collection of those fans you have to expect that maturity is not a default mannerism
