1tym is one of the popular group back then. They were quite popular and their albums were among the best selling albums of their time. After that, YG had BigBang. I don't think I need to explain anymore, everyone knows how popular they're even untill now. Then they have Winner who debuted with RAK and Ikon who debuted with CAK. These two groups received really big support and anticipation from the Gp and kpop stans. But then all going downhill from there. Ikon have that chance yet B.I' scandal happens. For 4th gen, YG debuted Treasure yet they're very far behind compare to their peers. It's quite surprising how YG bg can be from the most iconic one to this now especially after seeing how popular and big BigBang was before. Everyone was looking forward to the next bg from YG to continue that legacy yet their bg peak with Big Bang sadly.
How did YG go from being the powerhouse of boy groups to this now?

Ikon and winner fall long before the burming sun scandal, and tbh I don't think it effects the artists in that company that much. BigBang still welcome by Koreans when their former member directly involved in that scandal and some of them even involved in drugs and DUI scandals. Bp and akmu still doing great too after the huge scandal that hit Yg

didnt ikon had their biggest hit in 2018 with love scenario?

Was yg ever a powerhouse of bgs to begin with?? Their only notable top tier bg were big bang and sech skies; winner and ikon had a couple hit songs but the groups themselves never succeeded in taking up the mantle left behind by big bang. Compared to sm who had crazy success with a string of popular bgs (hot, dbsk, sj, exo) and even jyp (god, 2am & 2pm), it becomes apparent yg’s lineup is on par with those at best if not sub par. That doesn’t scream powerhouse to me

But how were the powerhouse of boy groups when iKON lost hype after debut and then didn't even manage to recover with Love Scenario and more or less the same happened with Winner? they would do decently digitally but their fandom has always been small.

Ofc girlgroups & other artists be less affected because the scandals are from their boygroups, BigBang is anomaly, but it definitely affected Treasure because the amount of harassment they got from kpop stans

iKon and Winner, iKon the one who in their second year was shipped to Japan for months? None of them were promoted in SK like BB was bc BB was promoted in SK in their early years. Having a great debut doesn't mean everybody knows you and unless you are a BP which by now they are still the exception, i don't see any other group growing their fanbase with hiatus and almost no fan content.
BB is the only group in SK that can survive such scandals so right here we have 2 exceptions so while YGE got "luck" with them doesn't mean all their groups will have this luck.

From what I remember, YG was really terrible at keeping momentum for bg's. Like, I think they sent Winner and iKon to Japan for awhile, which was a stupid decision since they needed to make a move sooner in Korea, and Treasure took awhile to like debut. And yk, all the pauses between comebacks isn't great.
I'm still wondering why they sent iKon on kingdom because I don't think iKon came back right away or anything after that, right? So like, they aren't capitalizing on whatever momentum they might've gotten from that. It's just all bad timing and not seizing the right opportunities everywhere...
