RE: Itzy: why does having hits not help them get a big fanbase like other 4th gen groups?

  • OP

First of all, Itzy hasn't had any big hits in Korea.. and especially compared to Ive's hits(but they should have cause how tf did wannabe not go viral all over korea and get paks, raks and whatever)

Secondly, they almost doubled the sales of their previous album and hit 1m with Checkmate?? and they just started touring..girl groups almost never do as well in touring compared to bg..let them grow.

I think you all forget how the korean charts was stacked the year when wannabe was released. Just a short reminder of the song released the same year

But the song still did good, and despite all that wannabe is still a song we talk about today.

  • I honestly don't even remember when Wannabe came out :pepe-life-support:

I just meant that it deserved better in the korean charts ;judgingpepe: And more of their songs should have charted high

  • Actually it's the opposite? Their sales are really good for their poor digital performance in Korea. Apart from Dalla dalla I wouldn't even consider any of their comebacks hits. There're many groups with more hits that couldn't reach the 1M sales yet (RV, Gidle, even Twice have the same sales in their last albums...)

Only BP (for obvious reasons), Aespa and Ive have better sales than them, Aespa had Next level last year and more than a year to build up and grow the fanbase after it, and Ive's overall digital performance is not even close to be comparable to Itzy's so ofc their fandom has grown more too.

Well, i'd say Icy was a moderate hit and Wannabe did well but then they fell off after Not Shy was released. So you are right. Their charting in Korea has been subpar but! Their songs are super well received internationally. People are acting suddenly like 1m sales is the norm for gg album sales when it is still an amazing feat, it's just simply shocking to see more of them achieving it.

What's um..interesting i guess is that Sneakers was their first hit in Korea after so many years but their first song to do badly internationally.. :pepe-sad:

  • The new standard is 2m or you're nothing!

New gen already said 10 billon or you're nothing :drown-in-tears:

Wut? Sneakers peaked in top 5 on Melon and Gaon. Definitely a hit.

  • First of all, Itzy hasn't had any big hits in Korea..

Why does literally everyone forget that Dalla Dalla was the first song from a 4th gen group to get certified for 100 million streams in Korea? ICY and Wannabe also charted decently; they're on the same level as LATATA, La Vie en Rose, & FIESTA.

Here are the top songs by 4th gen groups (digital points):

    1. Next Level - 1.07 billion

    2. Dalla Dalla - 920 million

    3. Love Dive - 719 million

    4. Tomboy - 698 million

    5. Eleven - 620 million

aespa and IVE do have bigger hits but that doesn't mean ITZY has 0. Sneakers is still charting in top 50 after 4 months, they're fine.

  • Wannabe is bigger than any non-BTS boy group song released that year.

  • Okay, let me rephrase that lol

They failed to reach their potential after their succesful debut, which could have led them into having big hits. In Korea at least.

Lots of ups and downs in terms of how their songs were received.

Then i would agree with you. Don't make blanket statements that are easily proven false.

  • Half of this list are flops in Korea Charts. And 25% have no relevance to wannabe since they came way later.

  • The goalpost really does move every year. Because I remember a time where Itzy was touted as a group with multiple hit songs and people were comparing their charts to other 4th gen groups to downplay them. Now that they arent on top anymore its Itzy never had any hits. Well which one is it

That's because they were compared to the other 4th gen groups that had debuted at that time and were also one of the first from bigger companies to debut. I said "big", not never had any hits. And when i say big, i mean in comparison to the other girl groups currently in 4th gen.
