Would you take a job that might pay less than what you expected but very good in every other aspects?

  • Do you actually think everything can be quantified?

    I'm not sure

    Maybe there is a way

One thing that is gravitating me toward this position is the fact that it's in a smaller town. I'm hoping that will be alot better for my health in general particularly mental health. I don't want to spend alot of time in transit to work.

In this new job, maximum transit time even with walking will be 30 min. Versus I would have to do 1h driving on 1h30min on public transit.

I guess the time of transit could be counted as money.

  • I'd say so, I saw somewhere that the last things people say before they died of things they wish they would do different is they wish they didn't work so hard.

Each situation is different ofc but just in general.

I always just lived my life straight and never took big risks or any risks at all

this job could be alittle adventure for me too

overall I think its worth it

the only person who thinks too much of the pay is my dad

sometimes I think I should never ask for his advice

    ;judgingpepe:

  • not neccessarily in terms of $$$ but maybe??? or rather that what you would put down as a $$$

you gave an example of current down daily commute times by 30-60 minutes daily - well consider this - if you take the job you're effectively eliminating that travel time and will have all that time to yourself not to mention that walking you save on fuel and maintenence of a car!!!

that 30-60 minutes daily (or one way???) x 5 (assuming normal 5 days a week working) will net you 150min-300min a week lulu time - that is quantifiable and precious

basically the cost benefit analysis doesn't have to come down to $$$ per se but rather the benefits you are getting with changing jobs vs staying - other people will tell you yes go for it or no don't but ultimately the decision should be yours and only you know whether the benefits of taking the job outweighs the costs

obviously I'm more than happy to run through with you the things you might like to consider but I as a random internet person don't feel like it's my position to outright tell you yeah or nah

  • I think we can talk more on dms?

  • Depends,

If the job is a necessary step towards my long term career goals, then yes.

But if it is just job, which is a diversion from my career path, then no.

If I don't know for sure - my career or how the job fits in it, then it depends on other factors - prospects, how much difference is the pay, my economic situation and finally 'mentor' advice.
