Is YG giving his male idols too much freedom of expression? Why are they always leaving for a vague reason?

  • Seriously, why are they falling apart?

Nam Taehyun left Winner, cause he wanted to do some indie shit. Now Yedam is leaving to become a producer or whatever. And there was also another guy who left just before Treasure's debut in case you all forgot. He freaking participated in the YG survival, made it till the end and then left cuz "creative differences".

It seems to me that YG kinda spoils their male idols, makes them feel artsy and stuff. These kind of things barelly happen to non YG idols. They just have company do everything for them creatively and do the idol part. But YG boys get weird often, don't you agree?

  • It's nice YG let's their idols leave without blacklisting, threatening or otherwise sabotaging their careers.

If only more companies could be like that

However, most companies give the same statements when their idols leave

I'm not surprised by an once making a thread like that

The only problem in this freedom is that they don't apply the same for their GG

Yall want your groups to be instact or you literally love the struggle?

  • Yall want your groups to be instact or you literally love the struggle?

When is it ever good for a group to keep somebody that doesn't want to be there? That ends up tearing the whole team apart eventually.

Treasure isn't even 2 years old, they still have plenty of time to rebrand and recover.

There's hundreds of things YG does wrong on the daily but respecting creative integrity is pretty much the only thing they do right with their bgs

  • Could it be that their contracts say they can leave when they want to avoid members not wanting to sign the contract when burning sun happened and their debut was delayed. Maybe they didn’t expect yedam and mashiho would leave since they trained the longest.

  • I mean didn't Nam Taehyun sorta confirmed that he actually got kicked out bc he kept brining his gf to their dorm?

    deserves best answer :pepe-notes:

  • If i understand what you mean is "give too much freedom to a group, makes the group more unstable and can lead to departures or discrepancy issues " i'm right ?

which in turn means "YG should keep all its idols in the dungeon and not let them have self expression or artistic freedom" :pepe-toilet:

  • 2ne1 also had scandals and left for vague reasons ..

Bp is literally the only other gg so making this a gender thing isn't fully accurate

    They still promote as 4.

Yge was being a scum and caused the departure of members one by one.

Even in coachella, CL brought in all 4 members.

So, they stayed united for sure.

  • I was going to say something similar!!!

  • I'll be happy to educate and correct you. :-)

YG let's artists out of their contracts if they want. Unlike SM and others who get sued by their artists to get out of contracts, YG has no obligation to let them out but does.

Granted, you don't see a lot of artists wanting to voluntarily leave because YG has the reputation in the industry in Korea of having the most artist-friendly contracts when it comes to sales income and having g enormous resources (they have the most expensive building of the big labels) and connections, partnering with practically every heavy-hitter company (Naver) and luxury brands.

So I'll correct you one by one.

    1. You said:" Nam Taehyun left Winner, cause he wanted to do some indie shit."

Correction: Taehyun left because he was dealing with anxiety and panic attacks. It's not well-known, but people who know, know that YG and Taehyun's parents approached him to leave to take care of his mental health.

Taehyun actually didnt want to leave. There were also musical differences between the other members of WINNER and Taehyun.

    2. You said: " Is YG giving his male idols too much freedom of expression?"

Correction: Your inference is that YG males can come and go as they please (let out of contracts) and given more artistic freedom.

YG let CL out of her contract when she requested. She had just signed one a year prior. YG heavily invested in CL's dream of making it in America and spent a lot of money on that and gave her a lot of time to make it work. It didn't.

    3. You said: "Now Yedam is leaving to become a producer or whatever. And there was also another guy who left just before Treasure's debut in case you all forgot."

Correction: This is a bad thing? Let's celebrate the fact that YG us NOT SM and forcing their artists to see out contracts. Yedam was given a ton of resources and connections to grow his craft. YG spends hundreds of thousands of dollars on a single trainee...Yedam probably more. It's like getting an Ivy League education for free.

And the "other guy" is Yoonbin. Agian YG let him out of his contract. He is now a part of a producer group that releases music under 0WAVE.

    4. You said: "It seems to me that YG kinda spoils their male idols, makes them feel artsy and stuff. These kind of things barely happen to non YG idols. They just have company do everything for them creatively and do the idol part. But YG boys get weird often, don't you agree?"

Correction: Honestly these sentences don't make sense. Suhyun of AKMU, Rose and Lisa released solo music in the last 2 years.

YG is one of the few companies that has the luxury and resources to allow their artists solo releases. Most companies go for the money play---group comebacks.

YG celebrates solo freedom. Solos released in the last 2 years:

    Rose

    Lisa

    Suhyun

    Bobby

    MINO

    Seungyoon

    Chanhyuk

I'm glad i could help you out. :-)
