Unpopular Twice Opinion

    • I don't think Twice can get a hit song again. It's a transition period and old 3rd gen ggs are forgotten by the public while new ggs are ruling the charts. BP can still get a hit because their group brand & individual branding is still so big. Jennie doing nothing generates a lot of talk. Maybe in the near future like 4-5 years later when the public gets bored with the new and gets nostalgic for the old groups.
    • They should broaden their horizon and find a job that could make them more known individually. I know they are in their solo promo era but it just seem like the same as before. Promote song, give fan content, disappear in the public eye. The only difference is that now some of them actually gets out to promote a brand. I was honestly expecting the more outgoing / workaholic girls getting a permanent panelist/mc/variety gig.
    • They should cut back some fandom driven content that can take up a lot of their time.
    • I pictured them to be more of a snsd/sistar/arashi/smap kind of senior group. Comeback as a group...then work individually...also have time for concerts.
    • Cutting off promotions of their new soloist is a disservice to Twice.
    • They should go try acting and get new fans via their dramas.
    • Twice division should get a better manager to get cfs. Somi's management got her a prada endorsement. Div 3 should do better.
    • Fans should not put down the not well known companies twice endorse. If those companies got bigger, it speaks well to Twice girls brand power.
  • Agree with most of your points. Fan content doesn't take up most of their time. 1 TTT storyline takes 3-4 episodes which means they film a month's content in 1 day. We have those comeback week things but that's just cameras following them around while they work.

Twice can never be a SNSD/Sistar kinda group because all the girls are still very interested in music. SNSD went on a hiatus because all the members wanted to do other things. Twice isn't like that. Music is still their top priority so even though we will have 1 solo every year, there will be a Twice comeback too.

I would love to see Twice as actresses but it depends on timing and if they actually have interest. I often see people naming Mina, Tzuyu and Jeongyeon as potential actresses from Twice but only Jeongyeon so far has shown interest in it and has actor friends.

Tzuyu not endorsing Viseé in Taiwan also pissed me off cause it seems like even after the renewals she still can't promote there.

  • I meant when SNSD girls were still all under SM. And Sistar before their disbandment. Those groups were like Arashi/Smap, they all have something going on while still coming back as a group.

Is it still because of her china flag controversy? I feel like her potential is being stiffled because the companies don't want to offend the chinese market.

  • I think some dumb Onces trying to force the branding trend of many girl crush groups on Twice a bit too much especially on fashion brands

If you look at the brands that sponsor Twice for the last 7 years: Vitamins, make up, games and sport wears. These fit Twice image

There is no way Lotte and Nintendo are less well known than Louis Vuitton in South Korea lmao, come on.

  • I haven't been a fan for very long but I think they are doing fine and for me they are the only girl group I can count on for hits and good albums. They are in my opinion still a top group.

  • TWICE had no time to rest during their Rookie Years (Oct 2015 - Oct 2018) where Sana was caught sleeping during a Variety Show Appearance.

From that point onward, with continual Japanese Comebacks and Concerts, it really wasn't until COVID19 hit that TWICE found themselves "unemployed" like many other Idols

So it hasn't been until 2022 that Division 3 could schedule a Solo Debut for Nayeon whom knew at the beginning of the year she was going to debut.

Nayeon initially was supposed to go into Acting but due to TWICE's Schedule she had to put her Studies on Hold. As it has turned out, she arguably gets paid better with her Solo debut than what she would have been as an Actress.

TWICE TV, Melody Project, Time To TWICE (TTT) and Behind the Scenes Variety Stints are usually done during Comeback Preparations, TTT has had a fan content outside of these, largely due to COVID19

TWICE and BP for that matter, have a high price tag as A Listed Celebrities (Acting, Idols etc), it is only the big Korean Companies that can afford to sponsor them. Many Korean Celebrities are sponsored by Branch Companies of Big brand names and are paid considerably less while Photoshoots are on the lower scale of earnings, still easy money though.

TWICE has been managed well by Division 3, the group has averaged 1.8m Album Sales per year, they have 9 number 1 Circle Songs including topping the Annual Charts for all Major Korean Charts with Cheer Up. Dome Tours puts them on the Elite List for Kpop Groups that do Concerts and their debut in America has been surprisingly huge.

2022 is the first year that Division 3 decided that TWICE members can start activities outside the group which was subsequentially planned from at least the beginning of the year, at least according to Nayeon.

tbh, as a fan, Nayeon's debut feel just like a big Melody Project because we know that other members may or may not follow it up. I wouldn't be surprised if JiHyo debuts with a self composed song, Dahyun and Chaeyoung could do the same.

I think the J-Line will settle as a sub-unit so the uncertainty is with Tzuyu and Jeongyeon.

Overall, the future for TWICE is bright, they are yet to have Concerts in Europe

  • The OP highlights for me two things I just don't understand

    1. People that think Twice members can walk into large brand deals and it's only the company holding them back

    2. People that think all Twice members are confident/competent/willing enough to branch into more solo work

I don't think Twice place much importance on independence/solo work at all or have a huge desire for it, or they all wouldn't have renewed at JYPE. JYPE is not a company you stay at to flourish as an individual. As the years have gone by, I've come to the realisation that like JYPE the company when it came to Twice, the members are not all that ambitious. They have a good thing going with Twice within their comfort zone and are happy for that status quo to remain whilst a majority do some low-key solo work on the side or maybe some sub-unit work.

  • 1. I kind of agree with your point. It's why I'm confused why twitter stans tend to bash what they think as lower end brand deals. It's important to build solo brand image. But still Div 3 should up their cf getting game. I feel like with some members they are waiting for a big international brand to get them. Nayeon who got a hit song only have 3 cfs and the rest are sponsors.

JYPE is a good starting point to venture out of a group career. They had the resources and clout to give the girls big roles or push them in magazines. It's where Suzy, Taecyeon & Junho started their solo careers. JYPE used to be good in choosing roles for their teenage idols. Dream High catapult a lot of careers.

I don't think the demand is high as people think, popular kpop stars are a dime and dozen with new ones being churned out every year. This year alone has probably produced 5/6 more with the breakout of a bunch of groups

It's pointless you referring to artists that started their career over a decade ago as indicative of what JYPE can provide now. Since then JYPE have got rid of basically all of their soloists and their acting division. The company now is not what it was then. They have decided to specialise on group activities which is why they pump out more new groups than any other label. The division system itself now lends itself to efficiently pumping out group content whilst keeping their high margins which is why JYPE groups are good at building a fandom for their groups.
