Like more than 2 maybe something like knowing 5+ languages

I have a cousin who speaks 9 anf I'm jealous and than I found a guy on YT who speaks 13 languages (even studied in Japan, Korea and France) and in his YT-videos people allways say how fluently he would sound. Than there was that one dude on YT who who allways asks geography questions and also seems to speak at least 7 or 8 languages. A few years ago there was a teenager going viral after he sung the frozen-themesong in 5 languages and than he said he speaks in total 7 languages since he excluded his mother-tongue and his native-language

I'm so jealous of such people ... and I sit here only knowing 2 languages, not even speaking 1 of them perfectly and than knowing how to read a 3rd one without even speaking or understanding it

  • yes i am jealous

i only know my mother language and half ass english

esp those who are mixed who learned language naturally not like me who studied for long

I myself could've been so much better in English if my aunt wouldn't live so far away from us and as I started to learn English in school wouldn't have acted around me as if she had no clue... I remember in 5th grade I forgot "Airplane" called her on the phone asking if she knew the English word for the German one and she was like "uh IDK... never heard of that word, I swear" and my teacher was like "How the fuck did you not fill in the vocabulary for Airplane into your paper?" and since I sucked so hard my mom send me for 14 days during summer to my aunt as I was in 6th grade asking her specificly to help me learn English since my aunt only speaks English at home since her husband is from Britain ... guess what, they did not even speak 1 word English and even swaped English words on packaging out for the German equivalent ... if the jar said "mixed pickles" my aunt straight up said in German she would like to have the jar with the (german name for the content of the insides of the jar, not the name that the food is labled with so I accidantly brought her the wrong jar lol and she was like "wtf not the one with those ugly ass onions inside...")

aaaah, I have another aunt who married also a british and speaks a lot English at home too (but they speak a lot German too since her husband is almost fluently in German after 30 years of living here) and that aunt tried to roast me as I said I was reading an English book ... she really asked me if I was sure if I understand Englih, I'm crying

  • Sadly, the only languages I speak well enough to be able to express my thoughts properly are German and English.

I also know Italian and some Irish but I sound like a toddler in both and usually just apologise profusely while pretending not to understand.

  • Well... I speak 3 languages fluently (my native language, Danish and English), and sometimes I have been a bit jealous of one man that I know personally, who I think can speak 5 languages very well.

I do also know German, but I'm not fluent in it.

But there are some languages I kind of understand, like Norwegian, Swedish and Icelandic. (I can also understand a bit of written Dutch)

I do know some words and sentences in some languages.

And I used to use Duolingo to learn some random languages like Esperanto.

But at the moment I'm not quite interested in learning languages, even though I find it fun sometimes.

  • I am fluent in English and Thai. Pretty good conversational speaking/reading/writing in Japanese - I took Advance Japanese in grad school. Beginner re Mandarin and it's in-progress. I had a friend who is American, the guy was gifted with languages - he spoke like 8 very fluenty - the major European ones + Japanese.

  • Not necessarily jealous, but I do feel inferior that I'm not fluent in other languages. Especially since a lot of Viets expect it of me when they notice I don't have an American accent when speaking Viet... I understand a lot, but my speaking vocabulary is very limited. And then there are those who write to me in Viet... The time spent trying to use Google translate to get the exact words (ie in my vocabulary) to reply :S Oh and I can only guess-read Viet and somehow it works lol

I took 5 years of Spanish and 1 of Italian and... I only remember random words in Spanish...

  • Not really. I'm thankfully in a place where I could find good resources to learn another language should I ever have the desire.

I took Spanish for like 7(?) years, but most of my teachers were shite so I remember none of it lmao
