Why do people think Idols are above asking people to buy/listen to their album/songs?

  • As long as the fans don't say "my favs don't care about the charts" and then be proven wrong like some sick joke the universe pulled over them. It's totally okay to promote your own music. That's why I never understood why groups that state their goals and are honest are dragged by kpop stans.

Yup!! Bashing groups that tell you their goals and dreams.. it’s the same as bashing idols who ask fans to stream/buy. Just don’t be hypocrites. It’s ok to do both.

  • Bon from Bz-Boys literally went on social media BEGGING people to give their album a listen, at first i was like meh another boy group...but after i read his plea i did what he asked, i gave a listen and i fell in love

like i think it takes a lot of balls to tell your company fuck you, you're not helping me, i'm doing it myself

    Bon’s Personal Message

Furthermore, in his personal promotion post, BZ Boys Bon wrote:

    Hello, everyone.

There may be some who remember me and some who do not, but I just wanted to let some people know how I am feeling, so I am writing this post.

I know that some of you told me never to come to this community again, but I could not keep that promise, so first, I apologize to you for that…

BZ Boys Bon Talks about “Close Your Eyes” Comeback

About a year ago, I received so much love and support because of your help in this community. Unfortunately, due to various circumstances, our group’s comeback was delayed again and again, but finally, we made our first comeback in one year.

It was the comeback stage we so longed for, and we are so happy for the opportunity as we take to the stage each time, but because we are such a small and remote group, many people have no idea that we even made a comeback.

It’s true that our team lacks in many areas. However, we worked so hard in the past year for a chance to meet you all. I know that the entertainment industry is not an easy place, not at all. I am certain that numerous sunbae artists and hoobae artists reached the high places that they are now through immense effort.

Still, in honesty, I am very afraid…

    BZ Boys Bon Written Promotion

Our group is full of unique members with a lot of charm. The song that we made a comeback with is also a really good one that we want a lot of people to listen to.

I am so sorry for asking for help again through a post like this. While I do think my members and our fans will worry about me, I want to continue promoting as an idol for a long time and show people effort, improvement, and skill, and to do that, we must become successful.

I promise that our team will work very hard during our promotions! Please, just give us one chance. Thank you!!”

  • It all depends on 2 things for me:

    1) The way it is asked (I don't like when they try to make it seems like fans are guilty if they don't buy)

    2) If they don't interact with fans but the only time they remember that they have them is when they want to sell something or ask to buy music/albums etc. This makes me feel like they only consider the fans as ATM machines.

  • Taehyun has already done it several times and antis have a field day with that but he never guilt tripped, it's either after a joke (putting yeonjun in the fridge at 1 million sales) or fear it won't work out like in lollapalooza when it ended up having tons of moas. As long as it's not forceful, using the parasocial relationship, there's no issue, it's their job and they are promoting it.

  • In the Eastern cultures, pushing oneself or one's work, particularly in direct way, is considered uncultured.

The work is supposed to speak for itself.

So they will say "Show us a lot of love" "Give your blessings" etc. Indirect ways.

Of course that doesn't work in globalised world, where the Western ethic of cut-, throat competition prevails.

Non-Western people kind of have to walk a fine line. Sometimes they step too far and get a backlash.

On that subject, the Capo of tutti Kpop has some advice.
