This is something i've seen around a lot and whenever a messy/jarring song gets criticized fans will come out and say that its experimental music, so its not made for everyone like we suddenly turned deaf i had seen it used a lot for NCT and some of RV's songs but now im seeing it even more often, even with Nmixx's song, Aespa's new song and Lapillus.
Do kpop fans use the term "experimental" as an excuse for bad music?

sometimes they are right, most of the time no
Quotenop, the whole idea of mixing and matching songs in kpop started with sherlock 20212, it was experimental 10 years ago, its been done and proven
Aespa girls is like a SM song as much it can be a SM song
most BG music that gets called experimental even if it is experimental, then the experiment has gone wrong

Yes. Experimental music isn't roar sounds, weird instrumentals that don't match well but are put together, etc.
While i do like NCT songs, i don't understand what's so experimental in them, not like they are doing aliens songs.
I think this is just an excuse as fans have nothing else to say.
Like experimental in kpop? 2nd gen songs were more experimental imo if we are going by this logic...

Yes and SM has to take full blame for this growing trend of noise
They should
-
Well different strokes for different folks selfmate
Seriously speaking I think there's a difference between experimental music vs badly produced songs.. For me cherry bomb is "experimental" but sticker is messy because there's like no cohesion and a lot of things seem out of place like the flute and the weird piano thingy

well I'll say that most songs that tend to get called experimental I don't like

That might have been experimental but these two fall under the last line in ur comment
O.O did TRY to be experimental but it was jarring, it didnt flow well at all, the lyrics made no sense.

I mean..technically every kind of music isnt for everyone lmao since people have different tastes anyway but to use this as an excuse for what is simply bad songs.. lol its okay to just like some bad songs
Lolol the fact that they use that term like we are a different species or something for not liking a trash song but they are SPECIAL
-
It does also make me a bit scared ngl

Yes
-
O.O and girls were not experimental
they were based on formula's that were tested and proven successful before
-
I mean the NMIXX song was def experimental but it was Bad.
I do enjoy experimental songs like FX's, Dreamcatcher B-Sides, and more

Exactly lol experimental is something that is simply out of the ordinary for pop music, not badly mixed/produced songs.

I think Cherry Bomb was experimental during its release, but using the same rehashed formula and even worse has just downgraded their music quality.

Yeah i rarely do as well. I guess they really are for a very select few.

Well.. they use "experimental" as an excuse for bad charting.
Bad music, is tough to assess, because it is a subjective thing. That is the reason for 'Charts" because with subjective content, it is statistics that is the reliable evidence.
Charts indicate whether or not considerable portions of listeners like or dislike a song - of course there are other factors, but likeability is the primary one.
If the charts do not indicate likeability in relation to the singers relative popularity, fans claim "experimental", "ahead of time" etc., as excuses.
It is probably a better excuse, than blaming entire population or identities like "Koreans", having no taste etc.,

I disagree slightly that there is such a thing as bad music
the word bad itself implies a degree of subjectivity - there are always people who like a song no matter how "bad" it is...
I can accept the term experimental music but there will be people who like that...there will be people who don't like that...
the reverse is true as well - there are songs that are considered "good" that certain people will just not like...
-
Well kpop Stans call anything not basic pop as noise so I guess it’s to balance that out.

Idk about kpop fans but experimental music is just as its name says.... "experimental". Whether it might appeal to some's ears or not is a different matter and it's for sure not for every listeners. "OIL OF EVERY PEARL'S UN-INSIDE" is an experimental album and I can guarantee you that if I make random people listen to the album they'll say its biblically bad. There's also the technical side of music where these "experimental" music will be appreciated better because trained ears will be able to identify what sort of things was done in said music and why it was interesting. I don't have those ears and I also don't have enough knowledge of the subject but I do come across some channels that could help me understand x y z and appreciate stuff better.
In a way it makes me think that kpop fans uses the term to make it seem like their taste is "upgraded" or "different" as well as just as excuse that the music they're listening to is bad.

There is obviously bad music when something is badly produced and have nonsensical lyrics to a huge degree lol people can still like them of course, but they're definitely not "good"..like you cant listen to weki meki's i don't like your girlfriend and tell me its not an objectively bad song.
