Will the aespa-IVE rivaly end up like SNSD-Sistar?

  • Now the dust has settled from what happened last month, it seems SM has set aespa's course - it would concentrate on its team base, concentrate on album sales and shun digitals.

I have said several times that the digitals significantly skewed KPop to the wrong direction, and I applaud the decision . Let the domesticists and trottists have the digitals ; in other words, make them irrelevant.

While IVE sells well, it is not going to be each for them to beat aespa's sales. IVE's songs will probably do better in the digitals, but Starship has the lesson from Sistar. Sistar always did great in the digitals but it never really went anywhere outside of Korea.

I don't think Starship will make IVE end up as another Sistar.

After this year is over, I personally think IVE will move on to fandom-only group , just like some other acts. That makes more money to the company; popularity among the general K-O-R-E-A-N public means nothing.

I think the transition will take place in early 2023 but the next promotion will probably show signs of it. Million copy sales although weak in the digitals.

I have said many times that the digitals should not play a role in an act's popularity, and I am glad tat SM has smelled the coffee.I personally think Starship will do so soon as well.

  • Is this a troll thread because if it's not....

Ive haven't released a mini or a full album yet just 2 singles and already their physical sales are huge! So nothing like sistar.

IVE also has the global support

LOVE DIVE in Spotify and Amazon music is doing amazingly well with no western push at all

If starship plays their cards right like how they are doing it. IVE has all the elements to be the #1 GG of their generation.

The others girls popularity are also climbing very fast

When they release their first mini is game over because if their single can sell 668k they will for sure pass the 800k mark with their mini

  • Why would Ive 2nd gen comparison point be Sistar... and not 2ne1?

2NE1 also didn't had the physical sales so this is the closest competition we ever had maybe since Twice BP

IVE might turn into the 4th Gen BP in terms of global success but we'll see.

before it was announced they will also were going to have a record label in the west so their physical numbers if that happens will also skyrocket

I won't be surprised if they also sell 1M with their next comeback if it's a mini and has US distribution

  • Even within fandom silos, physicals will be dead soon. It will be NFTs.

Your sly insinuation about digitals does not go unnoticed, because nobody has been able to beat IU at it, but that is limiting digitals only to Korea. IVE/Aespa can do well in international digitals, though IU is also among the top 10 streamed Kpop acts in Spotify globally.

So if you are looking for a SNSD-Sistar scenario, for Aespa-IVE, then watch out for an IU to come for them both. or maybe IU herself will.

  • 2ne1 had substantially more and substantially closer sales to SNSD than Sistar did with a similar digital run with regards to gen 2.

2ne1 doing 100k-200k to SNSD's 200k-400k with 2ne1 dominating digitally compared to SNSD is a lot more similar to what people could perceive the Aespa/Ive dichotomy to be.

    Twice and BP isn't that.

  • i think it'll end up like snsd and sistar

IVE will be maybe more consistant in term of digital just like sistar did

but Aespa will always have the upper hands in term fo physicals i think just like SNSD always dominate the GG of their gen with their sales

The difference is SM appears to have given up aespa's digitals when it did not give up SNSD's digitals towards the end

  • Its not comparable. The only thing Sistar could compete against SNSD was digitals.

IVE however is strong in every aspect, they are much closer to aespa than Sistar was to SNSD. They are more comparable to BP vs Twice in early years.

Yes, and at least in digitals IVE will probably overtake aespa.

However from that point Starship will have to decide whether it goes for more digitals or more sales, and the trend is for the latter.

  • Depends upon how they will spin Wonyoung, Rei and Liz. Also Leeseo's young age will be a drag since they can't do a 'sexy' image until Leeseo turns 18 in ,,,, 2025. I think some Leeseo-less units will be attempted like Sistar 19.

Physicals are like fandom goods. In fact Kpop revived physicals ; it won't go away anytime soon.

Aespa didn't do too great in spotify. We will see how IVE will d the next time.
