Will Gidle win a Grand Prize this year?

  • Gidle's Tomboy will be the #1 song in the yearly melon charts. Any songs released from now have too little time to catch up.

It is also likely to be the 'adjusted yearly #1' (songs released in a particular year, counted for 12 months) as well.

However, Cube is a weak company, and traditionally grand prizes were only given to the major companies.

Only Melon Awards gave Beast (now Highlight) a Grand Prize when it was not a major award.

Gidle will be due for the Song of the Year Award in all three. Jeon Soyeon's previous appearance at Produce 101 and Gidel's perf at Queendom 1 might help to endear it to MNet but whether it will be enough for a Grand Prize remains to be seen.

If Gidle pulls it off, it will be the first group win for a non Big 4 act. However aespa will release its album, so Gidle will have to maintain a huge distance with the new aespa song to win a Grand Prize.

  • Doubtful. They will get a prize, but Daesangs are doubtful.

    Reasons,

#1. BTS has released and most probably BP - both fandoms massively outnumber IDLE's, so fan vote aspect is not in their favour.

#2. Judges, have repeatedly shown preference towards internationalists groups (primarily BTS) than domestic success (which BTS also has), particularly MAMA. But GDA is more balanced. So that is also doubtful in their favour.

All they got going for them is charts and data, where again BTS/BP even if behind, won't be that far behind.

It is only Gaon which I think is purely data driven, where they have a better chance. But Gaon is not considered a major award.

Like you cribbing about the 2nd Gen IU curbing new acts, it is possible that 3rd Gen BTS would also be curbing the new acts.

  • Gidle is in a odd position

Like groups from cube have won daesang before so it's not imposible for another to do that but they aren't as big as big4 groups bc that weight too(*money*)

At this rate they might take gaon N1 yearly anywyas

Why are you acting like HYBE was always a big company??? BTS made that company what it is now. It wasn't even as big as Cube is now when BTS won their first daesangs.

They won 2 daesangs in 2016. They became the first ever "non Big 3" artist to win MAMA Artist of the Year then.

  • I mean it is just June.

    We could get bigger hits.

  • Lets say aespas song smashes and becomes number one. Is it really too lottle time for it to be the number one song on the melon yearly charts?

Yes. It is too late. Like the battle between Rollin, which became hot in late Feb, and Celebrity, released mid-Jan, a 1 1/2 mo difference was decisive.

And this year it is already mid-Jun. No song coming out from now will be enough to overcome the head start.

    2010

2am, then under Big Hit, won a Grand Prize.

  • I don't know whether they will count this 'new' album of BTS since there are only 3 new songs, which makes it technically a 'single album' which disqualifies Proof from winning the Album of the Year award, although it is not clear whether it will disqualify BTS from other awards.

Gidle will stand the best chance at Melon.
