IU debuted in 2008, when she was 15+ in international age.
By 17-18, she had already won PAKs, Music shows and Daesang 2010-2011 for Nagging and Good day.
That is what makes her exceptional, age wise she is with 3rd Gen, but career wise she is someone the 3rd gen looks up to - be it BTS, Twice, Mamamoo or most recently Seventeen.
Among the active acts, perhaps only Taeyeon can relate to that career and level of success.

To use Tolkien's legendarium,
Shelob, Galadriel, Tom Bombadil - all are ancient and absolutely control their own bit of territory against all comers.
So in K-pop legends, which one of the three would IU be?
WhyKnock would vote for Shelob - evil spider.
Other fans may think she is as great as Galadriel and as glorious.
But I think she is Tom Bombadil of K-pop - ancient, cares little about the squabbles of groups and fandoms, has her own fun and is well beloved.
Shelob gets killed,
Galadriel fades away to the West.
Bombadil, however continues on- neither dominated nor dominating.
I Think next we'll have IU lore as yugioh / pokemon / Magic cards lol

Ents are notoriously non-wordy, so better not.
Besides they got involved in the wars.
IU isn't interested in the wars, she is just good in her own territory, like Bombadil.

Yeah, but I was thinking, they had to have a REALLY long discussion before they got involved in the wars because historically the lives of the humans/halflings just seemed *too small* to even be bothered with. Plus, ents may not be wordy generally but they ARE wordy in song. I mean? If you look at the song of the ent and the ent wife, you can definitely see some senior singer- worthy themes…
My main thing though is that I just can’t see the ancient one regularly presiding over earthly human-ish feasts of mushrooms and meat and clotted cream. She just seems to *other*…
So maybe a light snack of lembas before gazing at the potential gloriousness of her reign in a dodgy mirror MIGHT be more appropriate….?
I’ve given myself away as far too much of a nerd so now probably do need to retreat into the shadows…
