She didn't fumble her career per se, however I do think she missed a big time opportunity.

She was always going to go down the actress path, and when disbandment came, she seemed like she was done with the idol life, and wanted to pursue her other passion straight away.

However, if she was to invest another 2-3 years into being an idol, I think her celebrity status would've elevated a lot more, and would lead to bigger opportunities for her as an actress. She could be getting lead roles straight away, rather than having to grind for 5+ years before landing a main role like how other actresses normally do.

Hard comparison since Taeyeon is more of a vocalist and OST singer type of musician where as Jennie is a performance, much more of an "idol" type like a Sunmi, Chungha type if you get what I mean.

The trainee pool in GP999 simply wasn't the same as the Produce trainees. The only one that has even a slight chance of surviving in a typical Produce season would've been Xiaoting for her visual and that's it.

This seems like such a bait thread, but yall already know talent and sales/success have little correlation in Kpop. Groups from Big 4 that haven't even debuted yet have massive pre-order numbers when people literally know nothing about the group. There are some groups from big companies that can't sing and have little talents compared to some mid or low tier groups, yet they are praised to the moon, have massive album sales and going on big shows, but I ain't tryna start anything here so I won't name them

Fans always scream about stylists this stylists that, and how they need to "protect" the idols, but the truth is this is what works in Kpop.

Not that her music is really taking off, but at least Eunbi is now guesting on some shows, promoting on TV and they have something to talk about.

The shade to IOI when they literally have the most successful actress line out of all 3rd gen groups

Who in Kepler is under a big company? The reason post-Iz*One groups succeeded is because they are under mid to big companies (+ a combination of Wonyoung in IVE's case). The other girls are mostly hanging in here or there, but they're not exactly smashing it in terms of their solo careers.

Kepler does not have the same general support and recognition so it will take a lot for them to reach the same success. They still have some sort of solo fandoms so they're not gonna disappear tho.

I understand this is a Kpop forum but let's be real yall lol. The one doing hit Kdramas is the biggest winner. The different way celebrities are perceived and respected is a real thing, just like how sport figures vs actors vs entertainers vs idols are viewed differently. Idol music is inherently enjoyed by a limited demographic, mainly kids, teens and young adults but dramas and films are enjoyed by all ages.

Is it really unexpected tho? Yeonjung was just really good at the high note, but I think many people agreed that Sejeong was the best vocalist from IOI. In terms of Iz*One, Yena was second for most people just behind Yuri.

For IOI, a lot of them were really solid as well, after Chungha and Yoojung are legit all-rounders, especially Chungha who carried IOI's OST during their sub-unit days. Jieqiong and Somi both did the high notes on the title track while the main vocals were out. Doyeon and Nayoung aren't bad either, both were on King of the Masked Singer.

When's the last time a boy group has teared the charts up? Wanna One had 10x the buzz and following and they peaked at debut with Energetic. Granted they did a lot better in terms of album sales, show appearances, CFs and other things, but tearing the local charts up isn't exactly what boy groups do in Kpop.

There are a lot more idol-actors/actresses than the ones you've mentioned, but it seems like OP only wanted to name idols from BIG 3/4 groups.

From boy groups there is BTOB's Sungjae who's starred in many popular dramas now such as School 2015, Goblin, Mystic Pop Up Bar, and The Golden Spoon for which he's won MBC's Top Excellence Award.

From girl groups, there's IOI's Sejeong who starred in School 2017, The Uncanny Counter and Business Proposal, similarly also won SBS's Top Excellence Award.

There's also others like WJSN's Bona who starred in 25/21 alongside Kim Taeri and got praises for her performance. She has a drama coming out where she will be the main lead for the first time.

But in terms of global smash hit, I doubt it will involve any idol-actors. Everyone just want their faves to be casted for the bragging rights like how everyone's begging PD's to cast their idols in Squid Game season 2. Real talk, even for the most respected and "accomplished" idol actress like IU, there's a huge difference between her and the likes of Lee Jung-jae and Song Kang-ho.

Who's watching a show with this lineup? The only group that has any sort of name value is Billlie with Moon Sua and Tsuki. No offense but I doubt any of the other groups would be able to drum up any significant interest.

I don't think it's necessarily true that idols make more money being strictly an idol. I think that there just simply isn't as much of a demand for idol acting as it was back in 2nd gen. Like if there was an opportunity for them to act, or if they were offered a lead role in a TV drama, I have no doubt many idols would take it right there on the spot.

It's just that it takes a lot for an idol to lead a drama and be expected to be the main draw, and the public simply isn't as familiar with 3rd and 4th gen idols these days. People know IU, Suzy, Yoona, UEE etc. and in 3rd gen there's Sejeong and Jung Chaeyeon, but other than that, how many people really know 3rd gen girl groups outside of the Big 3? Even Bona from WJSN is only getting a lead role now after her breakout role in 25/21 and who knows if that drama would do well for her first lead role.

And Sejeong is popular beyond just the Kpop bubble. Girl just hosted the SBS Drama Awards.

Kim Sejeong and to be honest, I don't think anyone even come close.

No other 3rd gen soloists has the combination of talents and popularity and she fits that bill perfectly like as an OST singer, ballad singer that Koreans love.

She can also be like IU where she's got the best of both worlds with acting and singing.

Chungha literally has the song of the decade in Gotta Go, has other songs like Roller Coaster and many OSTs. All soloists have ups and downs and a few underperforming songs doesn't mean she has fallen off lol.

Irene was popular and had CFs and endorsements, but the difference was that Suzy and Yoona also have acting careers which allowed their names to be known outside of the Kpop bubble into the general public. They also have squeaky clean images that lasted for more than 10-15 years, compared to Irene who now anytime someone brings up her name, all they're gonna think about is her attitude and bullying issues, regardless of what her fans claim.

People have already said it, but IOI and Wanna One members mostly came from small companies, and by the third season of Produce came around, their companies have learnt from the mistakes.

Imagine if Chaewon was added to Rocket Punch, Yena was added to Everglow, and Lee Chaeyeon's company debuted another girl group. Things would be looking a whole lot different.

Instead, Chaewon and Sakura went to a big company in HYBE. Yena, Yuri and Eunbi went solo rather than being buried in a small company girl group.

But then again, it's not like IOI and Wanna One members are doing horrible, it's just most of them are working in a different field rather than music and are already in a different point in their careers. Let's flip it around, how many Iz*One members are acting, getting lead roles on TV dramas and films?

In IOI, there's Sejeong, Chaeyeon, Mina, Jieqiong, Doyeon, all consistently getting work in big roles. Most people dismissed Nayoung and Sohye as flops, but even Nayoung has a film coming out, is promoting on Knowing Bros this week, and Sohye has been casted as a main lead role in a TV drama coming out next year.

While Yeonjung doesn't have that star or popularity factor, I would say she's someone who's always steady and getting jobs. Outside of her group activities like comebacks and Queendom, she had 2 musicals already this year alone, one was the adapted version of hit drama Crash Landing on You.

As for Mina and Chaeyeon, maybe it's just you? Mina was recently in dramas Moonshine and Minamdang, and will have like a horror special coming out this week.

Chaeyeon was in King's Affection end of last year, and is the main female lead in Golden Spoon that's literally airing right now.
