I don't know what people are expecting lol. Obviously fans are just gonna vote for their faves, no one is voting for "best combination of talents", and everyone knows Kpop is clearly not about talents.

Minju is nowhere near any IOI or W1 members as an actress lol.

Mnet straight up divided the contestants by popularity on the first episode lol. Are we really surprised.

And about Nana, I don't know what Mnet is planning here tho. I thought she was a PD's pick, just judging by the screentime and her being the thumbnail for episode 0. But putting that scene at the ending with her betrayal doesn't really put her in a good light. I guess they're just stirring shit up and no publicity is bad publicity??

Not that surprising if you've followed Produce groups as a whole, considering Iz*One was much more of a fandom-driven group. They were also more popular in Japan than internationally, so a lot of i-fans wouldn't know much about them casually.

They're all winners in the way that they've all cemented and made a name for themselves in the industry.

Individually, Sejeong has the biggest brand for herself amongst the GP, doing dramas back-to-back and is a real entertainment all-rounder in music, acting, variety shows, musicals and even hosted year-end award shows in the last two years. She's always in demand for CFs as well and is a brand ambassador for French luxury brand Longchamp.

Somi doesn't release as much music as one would hope but she's still relevant and attending fashion shows and brand events regularly, that just shows how much brand power she has. She's also done global campaigns for huge brands like Prada and others.

Soyeon's G-Idle is doing the best in music, but in terms of public recognition and brand power, she's the weakest out of the three. I would argue even Miyeon and Yuqi are more well-known and popular from her group. That said, her group is incredibly well.

The show had some buzz because people were speculating who's going to be on it.

But when the participants are revealed now, real talk there are a lot of nugu group idols who people never paid attention to anyway.

The biggest names on there are

• Lee Chaeyeon, a Produce group member who will be dropping out
• Yeeun CLC, but not like she's a huge name either, just a more recognisable name amongst international fans
• Yeoreum WJSN, midtier group with good songs, but herself is not like a huge draw either
• Kei Lovelyz, again similarly a recognisable name but not a huge draw.

The problem with these shows is that the big names that would actually make people tune in wouldnt participate in these shows in the first place because they always have better things to do. Just like how Lee Chaeyeon dipped the first second her song starts to gain some traction. To be honest Yeoreum and Kei would be better off continuing to do web-dramas and musicals, I dont even know why they're on this show at this stage in their careers.

I'm not gonna disagree that Queendom was not the best choice from their management, but that wasn't the only mishap they had. Their concepts and title song choices were simply not public-friendly.

No hate, but also their members have no general public recognition. Their best bet was Xiaoting, but being a foreigner makes it tough, let alone them wasting her viral ISAC moment. Their center Chaehyun is arguably the weakest amongst the Produce/Planet history, compared to Somi, Daniel, Wonyoung and Yohan. They have their own web shows etc, but lacking a public friendly member makes it hard for them to promote their songs on TV variety shows. Other Produce groups used to be on TV all the time like IOI had Sejeong, Chaeyeon, Yoojung etc. Jihoon and Ong for Wanna One. Even Iz*One had Yena. Kepler has no one with that kind of pull in the industry.

Isn't Wanna One's main vocalists Jaehwan and Sungwoon? And Seungwoo is X1's best vocalist. But yeah IOI > W1 > X1 > ZB1 > Iz*One > Kepler.

Not at ppl naming BP members here. Nothing against them but with discographies of like 2 songs, that's hardly a strong argument for being a successful soloist. Of course happy for yall with good sales/views numbers with a strong fanbase but cmon now

Anyways, it's definitely Chungha and Hwasa at the top. Both got hits and a legit good track record of releases, collabs, mini's and albums. 3rd place is debatable because there's a steep decline after those two.

I can't watch the show at the moment, but am I the only one who doesn't understand this name? Produce/Planet group names are progressively getting worse lol.

• IOI = 101 and Ideal of Idol, which is actually my favourite out of all of them. IOI lineup was really talented in all areas, amazing visuals and imo the ideal of idol.
• Wanna One sounds like One O One, and kinda looks cool I guess.
• IZ*ONE, with the IZ looking like 12. The only thing that throws me off is the random symbols like a star * which is unconventional n Kpop group names and no one genuinely knew how to pronounce the name.
• X1 is just lazy, but it is what it is.

Then you get into Kep1er, which is like what?? But I guess they wanted to go with the planet/space theme.

Now what the hell is ZB1??? Someone please explain.

Kim Shin-young the comedian. She was with Lee Sang-min and Yoo Se-yoon. They weren't too bad.

Hani also did it for a bit filling in for Donnie when he had health problems.

But good to see another female idol MCing as well.

Fantagio should push her more as an actress and a model. She could be like Nana or a female version of Cha Eunwoo tbh.

It's about time for 3rd gen idols to start focusing on solo activities, you can't do group activities forever. And it's better for them to do it now rather than later, when they're still relevant in the public eye.

Especially with how 4th gen girl groups are really starting to take over now.

To the Korean general public? I doubt it. Mnet has yet to top the first two seasons of Produce in terms of the general public interest. While the latter groups like Iz*One and X1 has managed to garner a following from survival show stans and international fans, they simply didn't have the same public interest.

Boys Planet does appear to have more following than Girls Planet, but survival show stans and boy group stans do not represent the general public. People who were around during Produce and Broduce can tell you that the buzz was completely different.

Chengxiao and the other WJSN girls are thriving in China. Same with Zhou Jieqiong and Lai Guanlin. They're always booked in shows and have multiple dramas/films going on.

Why would Chinese idols stay in Korea when they can get many more opportunities back home in a familiar culture and environment.

It's sad, but it's not too surprising to be honest. Kpop and celebrity culture in general is 90% all about visuals and that's not exactly her strong suit.

Others make up for it with their charms, personality or variety skills, but she's not really entertaining or a natural that way either.

Kim Sejeong literally had The Uncanny Counter and Business Proposal, both were hits, especially Business Proposal. She won Top Excellence Award at SBS Drama Awards last year.

Tbh none of them? By the simple fact of the age gap, it would be hard for the idols to fit in with the Running Man cast. Their youngest members are Somin and Sechan who are both 37. The ones who a PD may even consider is ones from 2nd gen like Youngji who's closer in age and has worked with other comedians in other shows like Comedy Big League.

Almost all IOI members are acting now. Sejeong, Chaeyeon, Mina, Sohye, Doyeon, Nayoung, Jieqiong in China, Yeonjung in musicals.

The problem is that many idols back in the 2nd gen had the public recognition to get roles on public broadcast stations dramas and people would know who they are. Nowadays, companies are using other mediums like web shows and focusing also more on international fanbases.

It's also the reason why there are less and less idol-focused variety/reality shows on TV, so we don't get shows like Invincible Youth anymore. The general public has little interest in idols anymore.

So like Road to Queendom or something else?
