The lyrics alone isn’t the problem.
For me, it’s the whole combination of their concept, who they’re marketed toward, and now these lyrics.
I could maybe overlook the lyrics alone since they aren’t doing suggestive choreography, and you’d have to really focus on the meaning to notice. But when you pair it with how their “teen” concept has already been subtly sexualized, this feels like another step in that direction. They’re being heavily infantilized while singing lyrics like this, and it creates an uncomfortable contrast. If you can’t see the bigger picture here, I’m not sure what else to say.
Also I feel like people are only pointing out the lyrics because they see it as an opportunity for a “gotcha” moment, especially after the NewJeans “Cookie” situation. But honestly, the bigger issue is the group’s overall marketing and concept, which are inherently problematic. The way they’re being presented goes beyond just one song, it’s part of a larger pattern that needs to be addressed.
