Both 127 and Dream really did amazing this year for music wins, specially when you realize that they only promoted a full album + repackage.
Well bp alone brought over 10 millions from youtube in 2021 and that's one of the streaming platforms paying less so not sure about streaming not bringing in money. When you have numbers in bp's level they sure do generate a lot.
Music label wise, yg are nothing nowadays without bp aint gonna disagree with that but that's a fictional world so... the reality is still they still sold well over 2 million albums not even trying unlike JYP or SM.
And again we are in streaming era, it is not about bragging rights. BP are easily bigger than all sm groups combined in that area. No one will remember album sales in 10 years but groups will be remembered for their massive hits
Thing is, YG MVs for BP aren't precisely cheap either...
Streaming could be useful money-wise when compared to SM's album sales if YG had like 3 Blackpinks. On an era with album sales booming, and K-pop companies getting richier even with covid happening and the impossibility of making concerts without some of them being cancelled, YG is getting behind even when having a digital monster like BP with them for more than 5 years. That says more about how incompetent they are than anything.
And I mean yes, BP is obviously going to be remembered as they had hits and all, but from the company's side, if they can't tour, streaming doesn't really bring that much money. The girls are surely rich though so good for them. Also, I don't know about that album sales statement, they are growing for a reason...
I like it, the gregorian chants on the instrumental reminded me of SuperM's Infinity, it's definitely a SMP song more than a NCT or Aespa one, very performance oriented.
I feel like the bass or whatever is called going all throughout the song could have been placed at better moments, because when it comes back at the final chorus it's definitely a highlight. I feel like the dance break could have hit harder or be avoided. I enjoy it's weirdness and I feel like the chorus not being very busy compared to the verses is a good choice long-term because the whole song except the bridge is already quite abrassive for the average listener.
SM have been doing catchy hooks for decades, they are at a point where they are trying to break boundaries musically, and Kpop fans are not ready for it. SM title tracks can often come off as abrasive but acting like it's an unfinished demo when the level of production is so high is just dumb.
On boygroup standards? Yes, possibly most covered bg song from last year and every person who is interested on idol music on Korea have heard it. For the general public? No.
who tf thought: Yes this a good remix MV, let's release it
Have you seen other SM remixes MVs? They are all like that
NCT really became very popular on Korea last year it's actually crazy
So was Somi the one saying she wanna dance with a ghost?
The album is very diverse and well produced, I loved Ring X Ring, Flippin' a coin and Everybody's got a secret. They managed to make a space/niche with their sound on a very saturated market which is great.
127 & Dream dont need to decline for skz to pass them in sales since I dont see how their caps can grow much bigger then it is now, streams and views is a more important indicator of growth overall and skz has passed them and others. You use korean digitals to dismiss them but they just got charting this year, after their scandals mind you, and already equal the charting of txt/tbz - aka the highest 4th gen bg on korean charts. I dont expect them to chart like BTS, but they (and 1 or 2 more) can easily get Dream/SVTs charting with promos and time. The number of bgs with a decent sized casual listener base can be counted on one hand and nearly all belong to the top teir, physicals are one fandom metric and as BB also shows that you dont need top sales for top touring.
Saying their korean charting equals TxT and The Boyz is pretty optimistic, not to mention how touring is just supositions since we have no data so far. They don't need huge physicals to have very good touring numbers but I really doubt they could outsell something bigger than arenas.
yeah? i think that saying some man is ugly on a kpop forum is nowhere near spending 200k$ on nfts which will result in around 100k trees getting chopped off. get moon sua OUT of your dp
Stop talking about things you only know half of the story, and what that user said was far worse than ugly. Now get Haruna out of your profile picture
Lol this thread isnt a place for real discussion but I think you are somewhat right. They supassed NCT and SVT in streams/views last year and people dont realize how rare that is to get good stats in those fields for bgs. They may not outsell NCT Dream or 127 yet but with more people listening to their songs internationally its only a matter of time baring a huge scandal - tho outstreaming svt and nct isnt that difficult tbh and idk if any bg will ever match BTS's numbers but skz seem to be the most likely even if its a long shot
SKZ had huge potential since the start but it's been 4 years of constantly releasing content and being realistic, they are not outselling 127 or Dream unless these 2 start declining, SKZ would have to suddenly become huge on Japan or the US, because on Korea they already have had 2 pretty bad scandals with Woojin and now Hyunjin. They lowkey are like BigBang in the sense they gathered a lot of casual fans attention but their physicals aren't that impressive, except that their korean digitals are almost non-existent, and they are yet to prove their touring potential. I can see them having a pretty big peak though but when you have such a bad image on Korea and you just don't chart there, you are going to struggle to get to the top, let alone match BTS. Korean and Japanese fans are some of the most loyal, and SKZ' attention is very western-focused.
