I think many aren't ready to accept that BTS will do things they don't like. This was very evident with the whole Jay Park debacle. For another example I wasn't fan of the webtoon but instead of complaining I simply didn't read. I get that many armys were disappointed but just because you didn't like something doesn't mean its a waste, I for one am I excited for this album.

the timing
last year they only release 2 singles, so dropping the compilation album would have been perfect.
it has been 1.5 years since they last release a proper album. they usually release an album per year. so it make sense people were anticipating for a full album. It's kind of a waste to spend that build-up, anticipation and hype on a compilation album. BUT that is not the worst thing about the timing.
Jin may/may not be enlisting at the end of this year. Is this album meant for pre-enlistment? If yes they should say it so fans can understand and embrace it for what it meant for. Additionally, is this the only album we going to get this year? So many questions.

With so long away, people hope that the wait will lead to a long form album. It's not exclusive to Army, almost every fandom that goes through a long term break (I'm talking ones that are like 10+ months and that isn't military related) with no music.
It's like a company announcing a group will release a full album which makes people expect around 10 songs, but you get a situation like Enhypen had where you get 8 tracks and two of them are intros/interludes.

its a combination of things, 1 lack of CBs, the hyper focus on english songs, etc
but its also the promotion/mediaplay
at the end of a concert after no full mini for well over a year they announce a new album, and its a compilation album
i 100% expected a normal album at least, considering hybe stock situation, figured shareholders would be up hitmans ass

That's a good thing imo as I like greatest hits albums especially of western groups.

Actually Proof is not a compilation album, Proof is Anthology album
I was disappointed at first, then I search google, Anthology is not the same with compilation
Compilation = gathering old songs, like BTS, The Best, japanese album
Anthology = gathers old songs, remastered files, remix, demos that never heard before
And Proof is an Anthology album Plus three new tracks.
Street saying even Jin Epiphany English version, and still with you acapella included in this Anthology album
And I am all for it
