Does hiatus build the hype or does it kill the hype?

I think it largely depends on how strong your fandom already is

i mean

blackpink seem to be that group that can go 5 years without a comeback and still be popular

it can be both ways.

an example is red velvet right now. a comeback from them is highly anticipated due to their hiatus.

it can kill the hype too but i cant think of any group right now off the top of my head.

you can only afford hiatus if you're from YG

See how BIGBANG, 2NE1, BLACKPINK come back stronger after hiatus

it can build hype if ur company promote the comeback as a big event

YG hyping up HYLT like crazy , with the teaser and everything , like a one big event for kpop .

depends on the group and the fandom

if the fandom is extremely loyal like armys or used to hiatuses it wont matter much

If a group is popular enough and go on a hiatus when they still were significant then it builds the hype for the next comeback.

If the popularity had died down before the hiatus then there will be hype but only amongst certain people or should I say only fandom.

Hiatus can kill the hype only for new groups. Older groups will always have fandoms to have enough hype.

Depends on the group and how loyal the fans are, some will stay, some will not.

its both I think if you have a little break in between it obviously builds up hype but some gaps are way too big.

For Fandom growth in generally hurts though.

if its a group like blackpink, the hype will always be high despite the hiatuses.

if its a group without a dedicated loyal fanbase and they have a hiatus, it'll most likely kill the hype.

With BTS, it doesn't matter, tbh

something thats worth mentioning is that

bp is the only group that has been put into constant hiatuses since debut but they still managed to grow the fandom so everything depends on the group

with yg privillege, yes. Without it not so much

Maybe popular groups like blackpink, snsd, twice,bts or bigbang can.

Like knets were losing their shit over a possible snsd comeback the same will happen for the other four as well.
