I'd argue this one is only expected by stans that want to drag other groups.

One thing I see is their impact on YouTube a lot, where reviewers start checking them out because they are like "who is this BTS that is popping up everywhere?" They start to like them then generally branch out to check out what the genre offers.
So I guess their visibility in the west brings attention to the genre in different ways.

If we're talking kpop industry, then they are definitely the main reason of the shift toward the western market.
For the better or the worse, though

if I had an akorn for how many times you uninspired users have recycled this very statement in a bts thread
I'd be able to buy myself a black custom user title
in fact, why dont you just send me some akorns
you're obsessed with bts' vocals and im obsessed with their talent, passion for music and lyrics
help a fellow bts stan out

Well, they said it all!! They are the Revolution!

Nah I have been watching tons of Korean interviews and shows talking about BTS and they always seem to emphasize on the fact that they have artistic freedom which separates them and made them stand out. I think Koreans really have different respect for an act that gets their own music out. I mean no one expects idol music to have that. But when you do you’re more acknowledged and respected for your work
