How is K-pop doing in Spotify: boy group-girl group-soloist Top 10 ranks

    I got the idea from other topics and sites. How are K-pop groups actually doing on Spotify?

    To compare: many American artists are in the 40-55M range of ML (Monthly Listeners: Billie Eilish 48M, Katy Perry 44M, Bruno Mars 52M, Taylor Swift/Ariana Grade 54M)

    As you can see, only BTS are close to Spotify numbers of active, popular American artists right now.

    BTS’ peak was around 40 million during Butter era


    If they release an album this year, they will definitely hit a new peak. Especially if there are western collabs.

    Treasure being a proof MLs don't mean anything. 6.6M because of one popular song when the rest of the catalog is a flop. :eyes:

    Blackpink member officially debuted tho so they should be included in soloists ranking..Lisa had pick of 28m and Rosie 12m.

    Blackpink had a pick of 29m during 2020 so they may not reach 40m mark but I could see them reaching 30m, Lack of songs impacted their ML so it will be harder for them to increase it.

Engenes and moas are quick to make and participate in tiktok trends/challenges which spreads the song to the FYPs of a lot of people who don't stan them and might not even end up going back to them, but check out the song nevertheless; stays, from my experience, don't seem to be very focused on that, we talk about and listen to their music a loooot but aren't that great at tiktok promo.

    Huh, so there's basically FA difference between international flops Aespa and 4th gen international leaders Itzy.

    This just means that treasure songs are better and you're just scared that with another comeback they're gonna end your faves records

    They had 29m peak in 2020, if they come out with a hylt/d4 huge hit it will be even higher I think

    I only focused on solo artists for this list, those who have always been soloists and those who left a group or whose group has been inactive for years and only exist in name only.


    But solo artists from still active groups would be interesting too, for a follow up list.

    Yes, I'm not even sure they were at 1m MLs before the comeback. Now with 4 new songs they're at 6.6

    And jt would have reached higher if all the songs on the album were released on the charts... this comeback was a hit for treasure and antis just wanna shade them every chance they get. So annoying...

    You should add the streaming stats too.

    For me the biggest shock is that Bruno Mars and KATY PERRY still have that many listeners.

    but to be fair western artists get 10x more playlisting so a lot of their listeners aren't actually fans.

    It's likely Stray Kids and Red Velvet will keep increasing their MLs for a while, to 7.5M and maybe even to 8M and beyond. We'll see.


    It's amazing to see Lisa have higher MLs than Blackpink.

    I don't know what her peak MLs were, anybody here knows?


    But it goes to show that when Blackpink have their comeback or any other releases, their MLs will see an explosive increase.

    Don't diss ML just because a group you dislike jumped up a couple of millions ML.

    It shows that a lot of people have become aware of Treasure and liked their song.


    As for streams, 2NE1 and Big Bang have some of the best discographies around, no one in their right mind would deny they have lots of bangers. Yet their streams are low, even if many of their songs are far, far better than a lot of the later-gen k-pop songs that have better streams than theirs.

    It's because people haven't checked up on 2NE1 and BB as much in the past years.

    That says a lot about discography quality and streams.


    Monthly Listeners shows how the situation is right now. What groups are people interested in? And will this still be the case a month later?


    Monthly Listeners and Followers are also the things K-pop news articles use a lot when comparing in Spotify.

    Treasure gets 100-200k streams for their title track per day, they will need much more than just one viral tiktok song to ever be a threat to any other group

    I am not downgrading their achievements. Treasure did really well this comeback,congrats for darari too. I am just staying realistic. Treasure isn't a threat to the top 4th gen groups because besides darari,each of their other songs get very low daily streams in comparison to the daily streams per song of other groups
