What's your take on this? A transgender swimmer competing in women's event?

As a female I think this is not fair. I feel so bad to those female born athletes who worked had for this moment only to be............ ;(

  • After reading up on her I have to admit that this doesn't sit well with me.

Apparently she completed puberty as a boy and later competed in swimming as a man before eventually starting her transition as an adult. The physical advantages she therefore has will remain for the rest of her life. Even with hormone therapy she'll always be bigger and stronger and her career clearly reflects this. She was an average swimmer as a man, ranking fairly low, but has been winning nonstop as a woman, breaking records left and right.

I understand that she loves swimming and she obviously wants to continue to participate in the sport she loves, but sometimes we have to make tough decisions and do what's right rather than what we want.

It's not her fault that she wasn't born as a woman, but as with many things out of our control she still has to live with the consequences.

We are thankfully free to decide for ourselves who we are and who we want to be nowadays, but there is a biological reality that cannot (and should not) be ignored either.

  • Women's Sports is being compromised.

No stretch of reasoning alters the genetic difference. Genetic differences includes athletic abilities.

Cheating in Competition can be done many ways. This is a form of cheating and corrupts Women's Sports.

Lia Thomas who would Rank 462nd in Men's sport is #1 in Women's sports. Lia Thomas is causing World Records that could stand for Years. Stealing all the fame and adulation from real Women Athletics.

btw this type of response got me banned from another form. :pepe-toast:

  • I agree with this

ok I'd be ok if they were trans from really early on but like wtffff they are a guy then no two ways about it. Although they had started transition, they are still a guy in my book. They had completed physical development as a guy, no matter how much they change it, their baseline is a fundamentally and functionally a male body. they may deviate more than most guys from the image of a "guy" but that's still a guy.

Considering it's almost impossible to transition before adulthood that makes me sad. I can't transition because it's not safe for me in my family situation and I'm an adult now so the way you worded that is disheartening :(

  • In some cases if the transitioning happened during puberty with all the hormone treatment etc, the physical difference could be reduced to a point you could say it makes it less of an advantage.

But once you passed puberty, your body doesn’t change anymore. You got the physical advantage no matter what. And this is the case with her too. She competed against men and never won, she was among the lower average, now she competes against women and wins easily. That’s clearly cheating and though I can understand that she wants to live the life of a woman, she should have enough self awareness that her competing in their sport is unfair.

And that’s the case with many trans women athletes, they started their transitioning after competing in men sports for years, never won and were among the average, than transitioned and are now winning in the women‘s category without any struggles.

Being completely honest the body, sans surgery, physiologically established homeostasis using the gender it had been programmed to do from genetics. I completely support transition and I definitely try to recognize a trans person as the gender they identify as

but with Heavy competition in a physiological determined sport, I have to call it as I see it; She had definitely a man's body, evolutionarily disposed to having a physiological edge over thousands of years of male fight, female care dynamics that has been a deeply rooted social construct for even longer than recorded history, the biomechanical physics between genders differ greatly.

I say that she had a major advantage is because she had a fundamentally had little time to transition, only a few years on hormones transition therapy and visually it seems that she still retains much of her male body; the element that possibly gets her a unfair advantage over other female swimmers. Taking testosterone is a contentious practice and could get female swimmers banned but essentially, Thomas had naturally occurring testosterone for 20 years, when equated to a female swimmer taking 20 years of testosterone, regulatory boards would balk at that.

I'm sorry if I had inadvertedly caused you hurt or harm over my views and I sincerely mean no harm. I had only lasered my words to within the context of this high level competition and in other contexts my argument will not hold and also I will have different views than that I have on high intensity sports; If a trans person identifies as female or male, I will refer to them accordingly. No exceptions.

I understand that transitioning is a really hard and arduous process and I cannot even begin to imagine the level of mental metal and preparation required to reach a destination that reflects your identity and I will try to support as best I can.

I ask for forgiveness -- I have a highly analytical mind, and often I miss social cues and due diligence to social cues and I am still working on that as best I can. Please know that I did not mean anything by it to trans people in general and the context is only within the context of Lia Thomas and her win in this competition. Generally too, science, regulations, and public understanding are far behind to what it should be and I am no exception.

  • No hard feelings! After replying I realized it might've just been a matter of wording :pleading:

  • analytical mind

  • Maybe because you use terms such as "real women"

You'll probably continue to get banned in some places.

  • Physical fairness? But, even among innate women, unfairness exists.

Watch global track & field events. 99.9% of the time, the black athlete wins because the black genetically has more muscle mass. Will we ban the black from track and field events? What about other intensively physical events?

Still, even among women of the same race, the muscle and bone structure difference exist.

Also, while transwoman athletes are forced to take testosterone test, what about innate women with irregularly higher level of the hormone? Forced test on them has been protested as discrimination/violation to human right.

A transwoman weightlifter competed in Olympics despite much criticism on anatomical unfairness. In the end, her masculine history did not play that big of an advantage and she failed to stand on the podium.

Considering it's almost impossible to transition before adulthood that makes me sad. I can't transition because it's not safe for me in my family situation and I'm an adult now so the way you worded that is disheartening :(

If you are not in financial struggle, you may see a doctor to be prescribed to hormonal supplements. To take the drug under doctor's advice is the best.

If you cannot see the doctor, you may be able to buy the drug online or at drug store. These are drugs popular for male to female transition in Thailand and proven safe in low dose. Take minimum dose. Hormone treatment will take few months to show any result. You don't have to take anti-androgen if your testosterone is abnormally low or you have been castrated. If possible, check your liver/heart condition twice yearly. Avoid alcohol or anything that is unhealthy to your liver.

    Estrogen supplement

    estrofem

    progynova

    oestrogel

    Anti-androgen

    Androcur

Wasn't the wording cause others also got banned. It was anyone who did not condom it completely.

Contuual Banning - I won't get banned, I Quit! XD No those placeas are easy to spot, not worth my time.

That Forum is now a shell of it's past relevancy. The squeaky wheels have gotten their way and stand ready to pounch. New people come along and quickly find the place is oppresive and egg shelly.

  • remember me this
