For those of who can't or do not want to partake in animal milk, what do you typically like to use instead? Soy milk? Almond milk? Coconut milk? Oat milk?
What's your preference? Honestly, I have no problem (ethically) drinking cow's milk, and I honestly love milk and dairy products in general like cheese, yogurt, and ice cream. Though, I do suspect that I, like most of the human population, am lactose intolerant. Doesn't stop me from gobbling down a hand full of cheese, a bottle of chocolate/strawberry milk, or a pint of ice cream.
Though, I do realize dairy is not that healthy for you, so I try to be healthy sometimes and go for milk alternatives. Though none of them match what I have grown up with and am used to in cow's milk. I hate soy milk with a passion it is so watery, coconut milk has an "off" flavor to me, and oat and almond milk tend to have this slimy (rather than creamy) texture.
Despite this though, when I do dabble in alternative milks, I usually go with oat milk. Probably because that's what my brother and his family drink. I used to put oat milk in my chai, and it was delicious. And, there is this oat milk I had at my brother's house that I could barely tell was not regular milk when I ate it in my cereal. However, I tried to be healthy yesterday and bought some Kashi cereal and oat milk. And not gonna lie, I regret it. I bought Oatly, and it is SO freaking slimy. It was a struggle getting the cereal down even though the taste was fine. Plus, after I ate the bowl of Kashi, it still felt like I ate a bowl of sugar. Would have done better just buying regular milk and some Cheerios. Finished the Kashi, but still have like a few cups of oat milk left. Probably gonna have to buy some chai and drink it that way or it will stay in my refrigerator forever.
Anyway, Oatly is gross, but I digress. What alternative milk do you drink if any?
