Observation: YG's steadily growing or maybe fast rising popularity in SEA

    Is it only me but BP very popular in SEA even sometimes overtaking BTS in some areas. Even Treasure now has mostly SEA and Japanese fans IMO and it somehow may be automatic in SEA to automatically Stan YG is this a style thing? Does SEA love Swagger-based groups or what lol?


    SEA fans are strong in Youtube. Just shows how strong BP views are and TREASURE's slowly getting there too 25M in less than a week. maybe they are also starting to contribute in album sales. Not sure if treasure late recent 700k preorders(more to come) are mostly SEA or Japan based maybe its an indicator that SEA is slowly becoming a powerhouse to kpop. esp if they keep on getting more and more Kpop idols from TH, VIET and now PH too.

    Bp only leading in 2 country in SEA and Bts didn't far behind based on the data from ministry of culture in Korea. And those two countries are Thailand which is understandable and Malaysia where the gap didn't even that huge. For treasure, it's still early to tell. They're just coming back from their hiatus and about the album sales, I want to say something but it better to wait the overall sales from gaon first. So, Yg didn't rise in SEA, only Bp perhaps as 1 act didn't equal to all groups or artists under them

    Didn't the one I give clearly for the 2021, and yours is 2020, gosh. And those you give is not even trusted or credible enough as I trying to search about it and find only small chart acc tweet about it? BE literally get more streaming in first week which is 183 million than BP, 148 million and obviously their main market who streams are Asian more than the west. Especially when dynamite is huge.

    I don't know why BTS was included in this section, but since it was included, it should be clarified that the boys obtained first place as the best representatives of the Korean wave internationally abroad and BP the 3rd, plus 6 of BTS albums claim 6 of the top 15 Billboard albums including the top spot in sales and popularity, in conclusion BTS is more globally, and BP doesn't dominate in Thailand either, it's Got7 that dominates there.

    The Korean wave post had no correlation with OP point anyway.

    Also just because GOT7 is popular in Thailand doesn’t mean BP aren’t household names too here.

    Only bp big there pls… treasure might have a fanbase there but they by far aren’t as well known as bp


    I thought we all knew bp was so famous in sea? They used to get trashed for that back in the day.


    Actually ppl talk so much about bp western appeal, they forget that bp main Market and the place that gives them majority of their fame is ASIA

    Agree with this. YG's brand has been strong in SEA for over a decade and is still strong. I agree with the sentiment that it is stylistically what YG does that is so attractive there.


    But SEA has been a very valuable part of YG's base. If you want proof that even YG recognized this...they just partnered with GMM (most people know GMMTV) the largest entertainment company in Thailand to form a new company...YGMM.


    And whatever YG's doing is working...it was just announced today YG broke their revenue/sales record in their entire 26 year history with $300 million in revenue in 2021.

    Dont act like SEA is not powerhouse in sales. They are many kpop fans who are willing to buy albums than you can imagine.

    SEA (in particular Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia) buy much more than u can expect, just that the sales are going through hanteo certified store like Ktown4u, aladin or YG official store/SM global store etc
