Do you think leaking the title track before a debut/comeback is a good idea?

seems to be a popular exec idea so they must come to the conclusion that it's worth it... i personally don't see what the benefits might be especially if the song's not that good. i guess it might ramp up the discussion around it potentially leading to more people curiously checking it out?

It would make a BUZZ if the song was actually good, the case with NMIXX is funny because nobody is hyped now that they heard the debut song, because it's terrible! not a good strategy from JYP, IDK what they thought would happen, nobody is going to go crazy over some garbage?!

It’s too risky imo. If it leaks and people like it then great, there’s hype build up. But if people hate it then it kills the actual release. There’s no sure fire way to know how every will react. If it releases on time at least you get the immediate frenzy of people checking it out and seeing where it goes from there.

Judging by the amount of threads about them it’s not definitely not a bad idea now everyone will feel obligated to listen to know if the song is really bad or not. Considering they were barely hyped it helped them to gain clout.

It's like a double-edge sword. It can attract people attention and increase their curiosity towards the group, but it could make the group lose their hype

I don't think it makes the group lose hype,especially if the song becomes liked.

The only drawback is that it can ''ruin the mood'' for fans,since most of them long for that grand ''full experience'' of the next big debut/comeback.It's basically like having a movie spoiled accidentally.

leaking the actual thing isn't great. Its like getting spoilers

but maybe leaking a part like the chorus of the backing track or a beat drop or a stripped down backing track would be great.

I think it works if you're not expecting huge debut numbers. It makes a lot of people that aren't interested hear about it and go see the leak. It's the Streisand effect.

I dunno. Nmixx is getting a lot of attention now cuz of everybody talking about how awful the song is. But if you think about it, if the song was never leaked, the exact same reaction would have happened anyways except it would have happened on debut day when they would need the most attention. The only difference with the leak is that all of this is happening a week early. And people get bored easily, so there might be less people talking on debut day because they're already over it.

Sure, leaks can backfire but it will usually create buzz, which is the goal in the first place. 🤷🏽‍♀️

It can help with songs that are growers. So many folks hate a song when they first hear it, but then grow to like it eventually. If timed right, their attitude might be most favorable right when the actual song releases.

Also, there is the lowering the bar strategy. Put out a song with terrible audio quality that gets folks' expectations lowered, and then release the polished version that will probably make the song sound better in comparison.

I'm just rambling though. Who knows if this strategy actually works?
