Why are mature/sexy concepts no longer prevalent in Kpop?

  • Sexy/mature concepts like these songs were trendy in second gen. Why are they no longer that prevalent in 3rd and 4th gen? You can say its age but even though Bts, Blackpink or Twice are all older now, they’re not doing these kind of concepts either, in fact, Bts recent songs are all very “family friendly.” Is the public no longer here for this concept?

  • I would assume the number of "I was really uncomfortable when we had to do that" stories probably didn't help matters.

  • well it would be jarring if groups with one concept suddenly did a sexy one with no warning.

generally i think sexy concepts aren't seen well now, like they're taking advantage of the members. some sexy concept group members have come forward to talk about how their concept was forced on them and how uncomfortable they were with it.

and it seems like kpop just isn't incredibly popular with the gp anymore, and hasn't been for a few years at least, so a group's target audience is going to be kids and teenagers and not adults. it would be weird to promote a group with a very sexy image to a bunch of children. the groups debuting are young too, some of them aren't even considered legal adults in sk yet or are literal teenagers, so it would be wildly inappropriate for them to do a sexy concept.

idk. it seems like there's a lot of reasons. there could always be a sexy kpop era in the future

  • I've been wondering about that too.

Sexy has been a main theme in US pop for decades, and with K-pop going global more and more, I'd have expected the sexy concept to re-emerge and rise too.

Maybe it just needs 1 or 2 groups that'll be very successful with such a concept to become the new torchbearers and rolemodels for others to follow, like when Sistar popularized the fun sexy concept and SNSD did for the cute/bright concept.

  • Do these count as sexy concepts?

That being said, I do understand your point. I don't mind it since I am not super into the sexy concept myself, but I can see the appeal. As others have said, people may be uncomfortable or have younger idols. Also, K-Pop goes through a lot of phases (cute phase, retro phase, girl crush phase and so on). I'm sure it'll cycle back around to a sexy era sometime, don't give up hope if that's what you want. In the meantime, there are still older sexy songs you can listen to, as well as a few more recent ones if you know where to look. Have a great day/night!
